Topic: Corpus Luteum Insufficiency Posted: 13 April 2010 at 8:58pm |
Yes its me again, looking up something else (or a different slant on the same thing)
What do you know about this? Have you experienced this, or know anyone who has?
Is it right that its diagnosed through ultrasound, treated with (ninja edit) Clomid? Or some other technique?
(Shezzey, if you're reading this, I HAVE saved AND printed out that link you posted in my last mindwanderings a few months back, and I keep referring back to it, gonna take it with me to the specialist!)

Hi Spanky.... I was thinking that you might want to read about Prolactin and LPD because you mentioned your very high levels in one of your posts.
Here is a link with a bit of info about Luteal Phase Defect and how it is diagnosed.... there is a mention in these links of Prolactin and LPD
Here too
and here
So I think maybe it is important to mention your high Prolactin to your specialist too (if she hasnt picked it up in her notes already) . Hope your appointment goes well and things get sorted quickly for you

Hey Shezzey, not sure if I'd read those links before or not (I was thinking of a different one you posted, which was super-informative about LPD)
Yes I had high prolactin at a draw in Dec, then in January it was 'normal' again. I'm still having galactorrhea - that hasn't changed.
What I have read about LPD suggests that a fetus won't survive past 8 weeks - mine went just past. Also I would have expected if the lining is breaking down, that I would have spontaneously miscarried . . . I can't see how a missed miscarriage fits with LPD (ok apart from the weeks of spotting I had)
But I don;t think any doctor is going to be able to answer that
I think I was asking about corpus luteum insufficiency, as most of LPD seems to give info about inadequate progesterone, and being able to supplement this. But what happens if you're not actually growing the follicles properly. I know there's clomid - I always thought that was for people who weren't ovulating at all, but I see it CAn be used here
But one of your links suggests that good prog levels on 7DPO don;t necesarily mean that you don;t have LPD either
. . . God I end up going round in circles I know, but at least its slightly better its not just in my head.
Specialist appointment is still 2 months away (this has been the longest 6 months EVER), and I'm open to the fact I'm unlikely to get answers on the first consult. I've started my list of things to ask though, and will ask the prolactin to be checked, as I'm hoping they will want bloods drawn (not sure, this is gynae, not RE)

Spanky... yea with LPD the main issue is insufficient Progesterone to maintain the lining and thus support the bubs. So best solution for that is progesterone supplementation (the suppositories NOT cream) and B6.
Another recent thing I found out is to supplement with HCG because it is HCG that feeds back to the corpus luteum and signals it to produce more progesterone.
Yep... your prog might be good at 7dpo because it peaks at that stage, but its the levels afterwards that are important.
Clomid works great for LPD because it encourages great follicle development (thus healthy corpus luteum).

Yup, was aware of the progesterone supplementation, that it was the 'normal' treatment method, or should I say, more common. yeah I read about HcG too, and how this can mean don't bother taking HPT's as can skew results.
I do think progesterone is an issue - looking at my BBT in luteal phase, its up and down from one day to the next. Doesn't fit with pre-menstrual bleeding/spotting etc though, sometimes heavier when temps are high.
I guess if they offer me both, I will take both.
Getting desperate now, its been a year since I conceived and just seems FAR too long to be holding on. I'm hating this 'game' and my body right now
