Hey I'm looking at getting the kids involved at some sort of afternoon sport or activity but I'm not really sure what or where to start so I though I'd ask some of you mummies

What sport/activity?
How old when started?
How often is it and for how long each time?
Do your kids enjoy it?
Is there much parent involvement?
How much does it cost?

Thanks guys

Kobe does a bit. Winter he plays rugby, started when he was 4 so this will be his 3rd year. Summer he plays touch through the school and milo cricket which is also open for 4 years and over. Both cricket and rugby are about $60 a season and not a lot fo parental involvement unless you want to. Rugby is training one night a week and then the game saturday, cricket is just on a friday night. its not just cricket as such tho, they teach them ball skills, batting etc.... then they play a game.

Addison will start something soon, probably gymnastics rather than dance. YMCA have good classes, unfortuantely most of them are during the day so I cant get to them and have to go for after school things or weekend.

Ethan started swimming when he was 6 months old. He is four now and been swimming properly for nearly a year. He has lessons at a private swim school, but I get a discount so it only costs about $90 a term.

He is going to be starting Soccer soon, he did some 'free' classes and loved it.

i didnt start my boy at soccer till he was five and this year now that toby is turning five he will be starting soccer too. it is $45 a term for the 5 and 6 grade teams but gabriel is in the 7th grade this year and it is $75 for him. they do a practice once a week and a game on sat morning. Sometimes gabriel would say he didnt want to do it but we still went and he always had fun once there. In fact he became a very good goal keeper and got an award for it at the end of year prize giving.

its pretty much run by the parents and in gabriels first year i was the team manager. that didnt involve much but i think the older they are the more you have to do.

Jake started soccer for tots this term (so was about 2yr7mth) and loves it. Its one class a week, lots of parent involvement as they're only 2, cost $108/term (8 lessons).

We're going to start him in athletics next summer (starts about late oct I think, one night a week and you basically just pay for the uniform when they're that young or minimal fees, and you end up running with them while they get the idea).

What sport/activity? Swimming and gymnastics

How old when started? Swimming - 6 months old. Gymnastics 2 years.

How often is it and for how long each time? Swimming is 30 mins once a week, gym 45 mins once a week.

Do your kids enjoy it? She loves both.

Is there much parent involvement? Yes, parent in pool and parent assisting with gym.

How much does it cost? Think swimming is around $125/term, gymnastics $90.

Is there much parent involvement?    not for me, DH takes him!! DH has to be in the pool with him but next term when he is 3yrs he moves up a class and I don't think we have to be in the pool
How much does it cost? about $100/term

We also go to playcentre which is alot of parent involvement but only cost $30/term per family and we all enjoy it

Charly swims and has been since 7 months, now shes three, I don't have to get in with her. Its $85 a term, which I think is a bit of a rip, but she loves it, so..

Jake is going to a ripper rugby muster day on sunday and is keen as to play. Don't know what involvement ther will be cos I'm gonna make dh do it, cos its bloody cold at 8.30am, lolololol. Sorry. Thats no help to you. Um, I think its about $40 plus boots and socks. He can' t wait.

Am gunna look at gym and dancing as well for them (j at gym c at dancing) but it will depend on $

Caleb does athletics for one hour on a Monday night for $50 for the season running from October to March. He loves it but rarely lasts a full hour.

We will start gymnastics at the YMCA next term which is about $70 a term for a 40 minute class. I am contemplating swimming lessons too but at $150 per term for a 20 minute lesson sounds pretty high.

Jake started soccer last year and loved it so we've enrolled both boys this year. they have a practice every week and then a game saturday morning. Jake loved it. Cost $90 for the year for both kids.

We enrolled them in athletics as well last year and while it was cheap $40 for the year - Jake had just started school and it was too much for him. So we ended up quitting that. Bit of a shame as Taine loved it, but it was too far away and Taine won't go without Jake (we tried it several times)

Am thinking about starting up the swimming lessons for both kids, but at $600 a year, it really is just a bit beyond us at present.

Brae does athletics which is 1 night a week for an hour. He really enjoys it and is doing well. This is his second season so he was 3 when he started. There is a bit of parent envolvment for setting up & encouragement etc. It costs $25 for the season plus shirt
He has just started keas for 1.5hrs 1 night a week, he seems to enjoy it & has had fun thus far. Its for 5-7yr olds. No parent envolvment unless you want to become a leader, the first 3 times you stay with you child for the introductory period, It costs $35 per term plus uniform
He is also interested in soccer but we will have to see
