I have had a blocked duct for a few days now despite trying my hardest to get rid of it, ie massaging in shower and just in general, putting older warm (quite warm) water in shower, feeding baby from that side first every feed and keeping going til nothing left there etc etc...but still it is there and it blimmin hurts, ie actually starting to throb...should I at this stage see the Dr as it might be mastitis? It is not red or anything so I just dunno, and don't think I have a temp??
Yeah if you can't clear it I would go and see the dr, I think sometimes you need to have them drained. In the meantime try placing a heat pack on it whilst you feed, has worked for me in the past
If you are worried a quick trip to the Dr's wouldn't hurt. I went through a period of getting a blocked duct on the same breast every week for about two months! Was a real pain, but I found that after about 4 days it cleared itself. But definitely see a Dr if you're worrying, no point being in pain if you don't have to be!
argh...nothing worse.
ditto on the above..but have you tried feeding bubs with her chin on the same side of the nipple as the block is?? hope that makes sense.
so if the block is on the outterside of the breast you need to lay her on a pillow and have her tucked under your arm...(is that called a rugby hold?? i'm not sure) its abit uncomfortable, and both times my block were, of course on that side.
it has something to do with the suction of the breast....hey, anything is worth a go
Another way to try is to lie baby flat on back down on the bed and lean over baby with no top on so your boobs are hanging straight down. You might need help to latch bubs and isn't the most comfortable but this way there is no pressure on any side of your boob. If it has been a few days though you should prob give your Dr a call as they can turn quite nasty.
