Lauren had had eczema since just a few weeks old and up till now I have had it under control 99% of the time after allergy testing and specialist advice.

One big trigger for her is sunblock. Sounds strange, but every single time we use it she breaks out big time. Today her face is a mess and we used sunblock yesterday! Her face looks really badly sunburnt, but I know its not!

Does anyone have any recommendations please f what I could try that is really really gentle? We have been using Sunsense Toddler Milk up till now.

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Sunsense toddler milk has been recalled ..so I have been on the hunt. I found a lovely one called oasis sun www.oasisbeauty.co.nz which others have found mild. They claim to have no "nasties" but there are still a few chemicals on the label, interspersed with certified organic stuff...its nice and non greasy.

I also have one to collect from the pharmacy. Its called soleo www.soleousa.com and while its a bit thicker to put on (it doesnt stay white though like ecostore) it is pretty much all natural and organic. The only "chemical" is zinc oxide....which you need to block the sun. The only thing I didnt like about it is the smell...its a little waxy smelling....but I shouldnt be so fussy

hope that helps.

the pharmacist said its been taken off the market as one of the ingredients isnt good to have all over the skin....scary! Its a shame as I like it...however it made me look into better options and I think you'll find those two I suggested really good. I think it was Jezika that commented about her girls reacting badly...but not to that oasis one. The soleo sounds really good though doesnt it...just doesnt smell as nice.

I was talking to a mum at playgroup about suncream this morning as her daughter reacts to them all as well.

The one she has found that works is called No Add or something like that. I think it is an american brand that has no nasty stuff in it, but is still really effective. She bought it from a pharmacy.

What about a natural sunscreen.

Basic Instint do one thats spf30 and I use that on my kids. It's not that much mroe expensive than a normal sunsreen. I just got it from the health shop or pharmacy.
There is another one but I cant think of the name.

Scary about the sunsense toddler milk- Im still using it daily with Isla and didnt know it had been recalled. Had tried the ecostore one which was good but then I couldnt get it last summer. Tried one from health 2000 but found it didnt provide very good protection.

I just got the soleo myslef and I must admit, the ingredients list is impressive! I know what all the things are!!!!! The ONLY chemical is zinc oxide. I still have to warm to the smell. ITs not bad...just a bit bees waxy I guess. I wonder if I could rub essential oil on my hands first and then maybe that would carry over. I'm just fussy!!

I am IN LOVE with 'Invisible Zinc' Junior roll-on lotion. It's low irritant natural sunscreen with like 3 ingrediants & the best thing about it is it doesn't smell!

I feel like a sales women for it but man is it good. I just HATE the sunscreen smell and this is great, I've just bought the adult stuff for myself because i live in sunscreen over summer as I'm fair & freckly. Luckily at least my boys have my DH's skin and no feckles in sight.
3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys.

I see that cancer society has at last put out a natural sunscreen its got zinc in it so that could be worth a try. AS for sunsense milk i remember having a bad reaction to that when i was a teeneager haven't gone near the stuff since. Also what about NZ natural they have a natural sunscreen too.

Thanks peachy

The problem with sunscreens made of largely natural products, is that many of them contain nut products which are no good for kids with nut allergies . Looks like the Soleo one has macademia oil in it and the Oasis one has shea butter...bummer!

we use SunSense Sensitive.

UVA/UVB broad spectrum
4 hrs water resistance
free of chemical absorbers, lanolin, fragrance and colour
suitable for babies and those with sensitive skin
actives (w/w) - titanium dioxide 8.5%
preservatives - diazoildinylurea, hydrozybenzonates

i just copied that all from the bottle lol. i dont really know what it means tbh.... but it says babies so i was cool with it lol.

and it just smells like sunscreen.

says on the bottle SPF30+ but its actually SPF 60+ i think? (but pharmacy lady says that the makers arent allowed to put on any SPF reading over 30+ or something? but its on their fliers in the chemist)

hope that helps!

Has anyone tried the aveeno baby one or this one here

The mad4baby range of bum cream and body wash seems to be the only thing my baby doesn't react to.

I've got the aveeno one and find it great, I use the other aveeno products as well. DD has sensitive skin and she has had no reaction.

Just to ask - where do you guys find these products? Is it best to look in the Pharmacy or Health Shops? There's never much at the supermarket for toddlers.
