Changing Mid wives?

Just wondering whats the usual story about changing MW's, I just found out yesterday that my MW will be on holiday for a couple weeks during the time that I'm due. Plus I'm not overly impressed with the way things have been handled over the last few months (but then again I'm not into the whole pregnancy/ baby thing, so I'm kinda thinking she can't really be bothered with me).

 I've talked to my support person last night who suggested I change MW's asap as she said the level of care provided so far  has been sub-standard, ie; some months I haven't even seen her, I've had none of the standard tests done, and my last blood work was done at 23 wks which I had to ask for, and my next appointment is in 3 weeks time when I'm 38 weeks.

I realise it's probably' going to bloody hard for me to get another MW at this late stage, but does anyone know what other options there are available out there?

You could try the midwives at the hospital? Or go to Dr to get checked out (I would if i had not seen midwife in that length of time!!!! You should be seen weekly as of next week).

You are supposed to get 36 week bloods next week so maybe go to Dr and ask to get them done there...I don't think they would turn you away if you explain the crappy service you have had.

i would bring it up with your current mw first. discuss with her and see what she has to say about it... it can be hard to change a mw this late, and you may get someone worse than you already have.

easy peasy! I changed MW the day before I was induced!! I just didnt like my MW and didnt want her anywhere near me when I was in labour. I definitely say do it now....you dont need any stress closer to the time.

Ring the hospital and see what they say if you cant find a private one you like. Then as Tassia says its just a case of filling in a form.

Thanks for all the comments they are a big help as I'm so totally not familiar with this side of things and the way they work,  it is a big learning curve for me.

I gave my MW a call this morning to try and work things out, she appoligised and hopefully things will be better from now on and I've also found out who the back up MW will be, I'll be meeting her in 2 weeks time so i'm feeling a little bit more relaxed about things now.

JoJames - I'm out the katikati/ waihi beach way, but will keep bay Midwifery centre in mind should things not change in the next couple of weeks.

Sandy Cotman is wonderful and she services the Waihi area, we are also in the Coromandel and she is going to do all my postnatal care and has been looking after me the last couple of weeks....
