Topic: Wellington MW recommendations Posted: 23 November 2009 at 9:18pm |
Well, I've been caught a bit on the hop with this pregnancy - long story that I won't bore you all with, but I'm guessing I need to find a MW pretty quickly.
I am currently on the Kapiti Coast but the house is for sale and I'm looking to move back into the city as soon as it's bought - don't know what part of the city yet or when it'll happen or anything!
I am also considered high risk as I have anti-k antibodies so will need to get refered to the high-risk clinic at Wellington Hospital at some stage.
So my question is this - do I go initially for a MW and get them to refer me, or do I need to get the referral from my GP straight away and not bother with the MW step?
Aaaannnnd - if I get a MW, who is good? Due to my current circumstances it's really difficult for me to research my options!

If you're looking for someone in the city, Harbour City Midwives (Sue Whitley, Jenni Doust and Deb Carr Porter) have been great for me so far. I've been really impressed with how quickly they've referred me on for various things (hyperemesis, physio etc) so I think they'd be pretty good at dealing with higher risk issues too.
I can't remember their number off the top of my head but if you ring Matpro they'll have their number.

This is the website for the midwifery registry on the NZ midwifery council:http://www.midwiferycouncil.org.nz/main/register/
You can search through every midwife in your area or NZ, see their qualifications and check they haven't ever been in trouble for misconduct and check they have an anual preactise cert.
This is the best place you can look as all NZ midwifes are on it.
