Hey RoSee

We didn't do/aren't doing BLW with C either. At around 8 months he was having the following -

Breakfast - combination of: baby muesli or porridge made with formula, fruit puree/mashed fruit added; greek yoghurt with fruit or on its own, toast soldiers with marmite or butter, half a banana or some papaya chunks, 1 weetbix with formula

Lunch - around 1/2 cup of any of the following: lentils and vege mash, mashed veges with cheese (specially broccoli and cheese, he still loves it), chicken and apricot (pureed but textured), beef casserole. Baby rice crackers or a handful of toddler cereal. Cruskits with cream cheese, hummus, marmite or just plain. Mashed avocado with or without greek yoghurt added.

Dinner - Similar things to lunch but if he had meat at lunch time I would give a lentil dish and vice versa (vege at lunch, meat at dinner). Usually some fruit or yoghurt afterwards but sometimes not.

Until C was 10 months I was still steaming and mashing a variety of veges each week and keeping them in cubes in the freezer as easy meals. I also made up mince with onion, garlic and carrot and froze that in cubes after a quick whiz in the processor. That way C got lots of variety but I wasn't cooking twice a day!

We didn't really do snacks at that age unless C was up while I was eating or we were out for afternoon tea or something. Then I would offer him bits of what I was eating (if appropriate) or a cruskit so that he could eat when I was IYKWIM.

HTH!

Like the idea about avocado and banana plus the hummus. I've been struggling with ideas on what to feed them so great to see what others are doing. Hummus, great idea but it never entered my mind. I think the boys are getting bored with the same old food I've been giving them.

Looking fwd to reading about other people's ideas, it can be a bit of a drag trying to think up new ideas!

I make up puree cubes in bulk.  I am now pureeing them chunkier.  We do peaches, pears, apples, pumpkin, broccoli, cauli, carrot, parsnip and egg yolk (cooked).  We have also started cooking up very finely diced fish and chicken and making these into cubes as well.

Sometimes I buy a little commercial baby food just to vary the tastes of my own vege gloop and provide a bit more variety.  (There's no way I'd cook up lamb's fry in this house, so why not buy it pre-made?)

Breakfast - 2-3 fruit frozen cubes mixed with either /and /or fruit yoghurt, mashed banana, and Stage 3 Watties Baby Muesli.

Lunch - we tend to do veges and finger food.  Rice crackers are popular and a friend just introduced me to the Mother's Earth fruit fingers this morning - so am trying those.

Dinner - Usually a pureed or finely diced meat and vege.  Sometimes I use the chicken/beef commercial baby foods and add to my own vege cubes, if I haven't got any suitable meat prepared for her.

Some of the other babies in my antenatal group are eating cereal loops (not Fruit Loops) - not sure what brand - but I don't trust my wee girl not to choke so waiting a little longer here - but all babies are different.

Hiya Rose! I agree with Bizzy - regardless of whether you're doing BLW it is good for babies this age to have finger food. Novella meals aren't always finger food, but if she needs a spoon I just load it up for her. Today we had salmon & leek risotto, was yummo!

Anyway, for breakfast she either has one weetbix or toast - sometimes both. Lunch is usually pasta with veges.. although a current fave is anchovies, capers, garlic & chilli.
Dinner - I buy one fresh fish fillet per week and cut up into smaller pieces (usually get 3 portions). Basically poach the fish and she has it with veges - sometimes I mix it with mashed kumara/potato/pumkin to make little patties.
Other dinners shes had is cannellini beans with tomato passata (basically baked beans, but DH can't stand canned food so makes from scratch) - but how about trying that? She also loves polenta - I make it and let it cool so I can cut it into sticks. Lentils are also a hit, really good for them too.
I'm not really into giving her meat just yet (although shes had a wee bit of handmade sausage) so fish is a good compromise. A friend of mine whizzes up seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, linseeds) and sprinkles it on her DDs yoghurt - I'm still to get my butt into gear and do the same.

Some cool ideas! [:D] Nova eats so well Anna! Better than I do lol. I really worry about if I'm giving Ty enough, if he has enough variety etc...

For brekky he has pureed fruit mixed with baby rice/muesli or sometimes he gets a jar (Watties etc..) of porridge. Most days he will also have one piece of toast with either marmite, banana or avocado.

Lunch he has a couple of the following:
*a yoghurt, either a baby one or plain yoghurt with fruit puree
*a cruskit, either plain or with marmite, banana or avocado (will have to try hummus!!)
*cheese, either grated or cut into a finger shape
*a piece of fruit, usually banana or pear
He's had canned spaghetti a couple of times but I'm not sure if it's really unhealthy for babies?

Dinner he has half a big jar of baby food (meat & veg) and then he has a lil bit of custard or yoghurt for desert [;)]

He is still having 4 x 200ml bottles of formula a day and usually drinks most of it. And he drinks water after each solids meal - YAY I finally got him drinking water!! [:D]

Rose, she pretty much just eats what we're having and since we don't spend nights eating out with copious amounts of booze anymore, we figure we may as well buy yummy food for the house
Thought of another thing she loves - eggplants! She devours them!
Try not to worry too much about Ty not getting enough - he is still having decent amounts of milk and if he's happy and healthy I'm sure he's just fine And yay he's drinking water!

Re spaghetti - I don't think its the most nutritious but don't worry too much about that, if you're giving him a wide range of food then it shouldn't matter too much. I'm sure baked beans will be a hit, why not try them. Umm, my mind is blank - she has had a wide range of food, if I think of anymore I'll let ya know
