I have had a look at the WINZ website but cannot find what I am after. Is there a subsidy or allowance available if you have someone come into your home to help with childcare? I can see that you get one for DC etc but not for home help. I was hoping to be able to get my Mum to come one day a week and help out but she can't afford to drop a day of work and I can't afford to pay her the full amount she earns in a day.

Does anyone know?
Lindsey

You can get home help if you have twins after having another under 5 yr old; in domestic violence situations and other emergency situations...from memory though. You could ring their 0800 number and check

if she joins a registered childcare agency, like porse (you dont have to have childcare qualifications to do so) you are then eligable to get the childcare subsidy from winz. it is only $3.51 p/h though from memory.

It's gone up to $3.63 max - you'd have to check though that family are eligible to receive it from you? I know in all other cases of home help etc they're not.

No they're not. They have to go to a registered daycare.

The rates for the subsidy are on the winz website and it does depend on how many children you have (even if only say one is going to daycare) you work it out by how many children you have and how much both you and your partner earn gross per week and that's the subsidy you are most likely entitled to PH.

Like LG said, there is home help available if you have twins or if for some medical reason you are unable to look after the child/children yourself.

Hope this helps :)

If a family member (aunt, gran etc) who is not the child's primary caregiver is signed up with PORSE etc as an in-home carer then you can definitely get a childcare subsidy to pay them. I would assume it would be the same if they are signed up as a nanny and therefore coming to your home. Maybe ring a porse office and ask them.

Thanks for all the info ladies. If it's only $3-4/hr then I don't think it will work out financially for us. Oh well, will just have to see if Mum can have Jack sometimes on her days off, would have been nice for the company though each week
