I picked DS up from daycare yesterday at 4.20pm. We got home and i noticed he was wet right through, i changed him of course, but noticed he had quite a rash. I checked his daycare sheet and it said he had not been changed since 12.20pm... I asked this morning why he hadnt been changed and got told that oh he was asleep at changing time.... i said surely you change outside those times also, to which she said of course. Then asked in future if i wanted him to be woken to be changed, i said no way! He did go to sleep after the nappy change for a short time, then up again and back down at 3.05pm, surely he should have been changed in between then. His teachers appologized many times for what happened, but im just not happy. My boy has NEVER had more than a slight bit of redness, but now he has a full on rash.

Im not sure if i should leave it at that or talk to the daycare manager.... thoughts?

Edited for spelling.

if it were me(I am a ECE teacher) i would never ask something stupid like do you want him to be woken..:(!

they should check him before and after sleep...Personally i would leave it..they know now and they have apologised.. so hopefully it won't happen again..

That is really horrible Happened to me once with Chloe as well! But since you have said something, I would leave it for now and see if it happens again. It may have been a genuine mistake. It hasn't happened again to us.

You could also send a tube of bum-cream along to DC and get them to apply that at nappy changes, to help protect his bottom. Chloe didn't really start getting nappy rashes until around 5-6 months anyway, same with Ollie, so it might pay to start doing something like that.

ETA: If it happens again I would definitely be talking to the manager about it!!

I wouldn't say anything else but I would make sure that it was the Head Teacher that you spoke to. I always clarify things with the Head Teacher as well as the person involved so its clear with everyone.

That is shocking and i would have been horrified if it was my child. I know at DS's DC they don't have "change times" they just have a person that is on changing duty all day and they change kids as and when needed. DS is changed when going down for a nap and when he gets back up, even if its only been an hour.

Yes I would definitely be upset. You are paying them good money to take care of your child, so letting him sit around in a wet nappy/clothes long enough to get a rash is not on. Poor Bubba.

As Peanut said make sure the head teacher is aware of the incident, and hopefully it never happens again.

I thought it was strange though that you asked if they change nappies outside of change time, and she said yes but do you want him woken next time?!

Thanks everyone, i did speak to his main teacher and they are all aware of it. I know that they do take good care of him, but just this once. So will leave it for now but if it happens again i wont. He does have a tube of cream with him at dc so that they can use it whenever.

I do find it strange that they have change times... And yeah Kellie i found that a bit weird to, the look on my face when she said about waking him to change him she must have known i wasnt happy!

I really do like his daycare and they do take good care of him i was just horrified yesterday.

it's not that weird having change times..very common..it;s just so that at say 10 every child is checked and changed...and then they go outside or whatever.. and it means the changing person can do a lot all at once..but it's not the best way of doing things.. but with ratios and stuff it's often that way.. and it still doesn't mean they shouldn't change him every 3 hours or so.!

my daughters daycare they change the nappies approx every 2 hours or if they need them which ever comes first...I send Megan in a cloth nappy and often when I have picked her up her cloth nappy (which is in her wetbag) is mostly dry I like that they do change nappies as often as they do as it means less change of baby/child getting a rash
