Hi

DH and I are actively ttc our second child. Basically our current circumstances are ideal for growing our family, much more than they will be later down the track, and we want our children close in age. Anyway, enough trying to justify myself.

My questions are: How do I prepare my daughter for a sibling when she is so young herself? Pram suggestions for two littlies? Do we need two cots...how about high chairs? Am I going to get hammered for my decision to have two kids close in age? ....That's all I can remember for now, I'll come back with more questions later

TIA

I don't think you'll be hammered at all! There are heaps of people who have a small age gap in children and want to have a small age gap.   I wanted to have kids close in age and well 2.5 years was what I managed to do.

With Sam, although he's quite a bit older than your daughter, I have just been talking about the baby to him, getting him to feel my tummy, showing him things that are for the baby and when the baby arrives I will try and get him to be my little 'helper' with nappies and things like that.

We are looking at the P&T Buggy and a doubles kit which means Sam can still sit in it if he needs to and we're going to be having more kids after this one so it should come in handy.   There are other options like a toddler seat that sits at the front of your buggy or a side by side double buggy for kids close in age.

Not really sure about cots or highchairs as each child is different and while some would be out of a highchair at 14-15 months or so onwards, other children might still be happy to sit in one 2+, same with a cot.   Some kids stay in a cot for ages and others start climbing out at a young age and are ready for a big bed sooner.   And some babies are in bassinets for a while so you might not need an extra cot at all if the timing is right for them both to upgrade.

Yeah, I don't think you need to justify yourself at all! It's your family and your life and a small age gap can be a really good thing! Well I think so, and I guess you just go with it when #2 is born and your life sort of just adjusts to it.

Issy was17 months when Elias arrived, we didnt do anything as such to prepare her except start her part time daycare as we didnt want her to think it was because of the baby (they will both go part time next year)

We never really told her about the baby except to say there was one in Mummy's tummy.

She adored him from the very first time she met him (and she still does) her first words each morning are usually "Where is Elias"?

We have two cots, two change tables but one high chair as Issy now sits at her own table (and Elias isnt eating yet).

We have a P&T Vibe and a double mb, I prefer the MB while Elias needs to lie down as its a PITA to slide him in and out, but once the toddler seat can go on the back I might use that one more, at the moment we only use it when we are going out with one.
Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months)

I did it .. 41 kgs gone! From flab to fab in under a year LFs weight blog

mine will probably be right on two under two as they are due the same day though E came early..

We just tell him to be gentle with Mum's tummy and that there is a baby in there.. he goes...aww and pats it.. but that's about it... he already does 8 hours preschool so staying with that and he has a doll from the toy place(much to Grandparent's disgust) which he loves to play with and we just talk to him about being careful around babies etc..he sees them at school anyway..
i am determined even though E doesn't like bed so far to get him into his bed before bub comes and he has a table that we are getting him to eat at which will eventually become his food table..

so no to the cots for us and high chair.. my friend was selling a pram so in the end got one with toddler seat as even though he is sortof ok with pram now he is starting to dislike it so figured not much point wasting money buying new double type pram as this baby will be our last..

the only thing really concerning me is how much time Ethan will miss out on:(
Mum to two amazing boys!

We have 17 months between Tom and James. I was determined to have James in a bassinet for as long as possible so as not to oust Tom from his cot. Well, James lasted 8weeks! So we borrowed a cot from some friends. Tom has just gone into a big bed at 2yrs (his choice..I'd have him in a cot forever...but he is doing well).

Highchair...we only have one. Tom decided he was too big for it and he now sits at the table with us. As soon as I put James in the highchair (before he started solids...just so he was part of meal times) Tom decided he wasnt having a bar of it.

Buggy..we have a double MB. We also kept our single MB. To start with we used the double most of the time but now Tom likes to walk so we tend to use the single a bit more. I also have a moby wrap and that is great. I am thinking of selling the double and getting a back pack now as I think that might work better. The double is great for walking but hopeless for shopping.

To prepare Tom, we talked about the baby in mummy's tummy....There was one in Tom' s and Daddy's so he obviously got that concept LOL. I did train Tom to climb into his highchair though in case I had a c-section...which I did.

The main thing I can suggest is get Hollie into really good routines. Get her sleeping well now so that that can carry on. You really need one of them sleeping!!
