Hi ladies
I am wondering what TTC 'gadgets' you recommend and don't recommend. I reckon you could spend a fortune on urine ovulation testers, saliva ovulation testers, thermometers etc.
Are there any you think are a waste of time and money?
I bought some ovulation test strips from baby4u.co.nz. Have tried a couple but no pink line as yet, but then AF seemed a bit mucked up last time around (hopefully a sign my body is getting back to normal after coming off BC 4 months ago).

i personally reckon just charting is the way to go. its totally personal opinion and i mean absolutely no disrespect to ppl that have it all but i think TTC is quite an easy thing to obsess over so the less the better, to start with at least, if that makes any sense. OPK's are good too as they can predicts before you OV as opposed to charts where you can miss OV and get caught out. if things dont work after quite a while go nuts and get everything. lol. there are monitors and all kinds out there, you have to get them from overseas though i think

Petal, I agree with Monikah.. charting is the way to go... it helps you see how your cycle is going. My best tip for OPK (ovulation strips) is to use them three times a day around expected ovulation time. You can get some very cheap ones off ebay.

I don't mean any offensive to anyone either. This is just my personal opinion..
I think if you are just starting ttc take a relaxed approach to it and just BD when you want to, figure out how long your cycle is and just have fun around 2 weeks before AF would be due.
If you really want to do something then chart.
I think too many obsess over everything and takes the fun out of having sex. One of my friends hubby complains because of how obsessed she gets over her temps, symptoms, testing etc and how he HAS to perform on certain days and hes had enough and I can't blame him. I think most "gadgets" add stress to it all.
Just my opinion though!

Im the opposite to Stacey, I would much rather be proactive than sit back and wait longer than I have to.... Our sex life is just as good as when we arnt TTC, infact we make more of an effort to show how much we love each other so that BDing doent become a chore. I think what ever you do, you need to make sure its right for you..
I chart (love the temping, shows that I did Ov, and when, and the charting girls are a hoot!
Ive done OPKs, and TBH, not really a big fan, a whole lot of hassle for a line thats pretty dark, but is it as dark as the control?
I have a Maybe baby, but found it didnt work for me...
I have just bought a clear blue easy fertility monitor, and love it (even though hopefully I wont need it!) Way worth the money!
anyway GL, and if you need any more advice, Im sure people will pipe up!

Rachel, you can get them off ebay at prices ranging from oz $50 to $200. You need to purchase the sticks as well.

I have the monitor too and after 4 yrs of trying it really took the stress out of BDing time. The opks can leave you Bding for days still not knowing if u caught the eggy.
At least with the monitor it was plain as day and Bding wasn't a chore. DH was into it too, he was keen to see the level move from high to peak.
I was told about them by my friend on oz who was trying for 2 years with PCOS and managed it 1st pop when using the monitor.
I chart as well but i also have PCOS and i couldn't see a pattern to use from month to month, still enjoy charting tho.
Maybe baby didn't work for me at all either.
I have only used my monitor once too and.....

I do also agree with Stace - TTC is such a stressful journey!

IVF it is
IVF/ICSI round one
10 eggs, 8 mature, 3 fertilised BFN
IVF/ICSI #2 = 22 eggs!
20 mature, 15 fertilised, 1 fresh transfer and 2 frosties
BFN
2 Frosties still in freezer thank god

Yhey say they are not good for PCOS, but both myself and my Best Friend have managed with the monitor and PCOS

I used First Response OPK's this cycle & loved them - they were very accurate!!! moreso than the internet cheapy's.. it was $25.00 for a box of 7 tests (well I got it for $7 on trademe!, but regular price is 25.00).. worth it if you want to spend that amount

hi buzzydaisy, we fell pregnant at the same time after 20mths of trying, i had a misscarriage 2 weeks ago so are now trying again. this clearblue monitor, do you know if you can get it any where in nz.

LOL I'm with LilFatty and Stacey too - TTC methods could include having fun, having lots of nookie, seeing how many places round the house you can get it on, greeting hubby at the door in your bday suit, the list goes on...
I started to chart and found it stressful from day one TBH. Our BD rate dropped through the floor but in saying that we got BFP that month too. Wasn't fun though and I wouldn't do it again (use any TTC methods other than brimming penis ). That was just me though.

I charted and it was good to see what my body was doing and when, but in saying that, I never included DH in what my chart was doing, so that he didn't feel pressured (and I didn't have much trouble, unlike some of the other ladies on here). Personally, I'm with Stacey though - if you're just starting out, just take the laid back approach and have lots of fun trying!!
