I know bumper pads are not recommended because of their SIDS risk, however my boy is almost 1 and wriggles heaps in his sleep - must take after me He wriggles so much when he is settling down to sleep that often he will bang his head into the side of the cot and wake himself and the rest of the household up.
Does anyone use bumper pads? I was thinking that they might be OK now that he is older...
Does anyone have any recommendations for how to make them safer?
Ive used bumper pads right from when Caden went into his cot at 2 months old, have had no issues with them as they are tied on with huge knots.
We also gave him a pillow at about 10 months old.
i would think at 1 it's really safe..we have a wriggler too and so never put them on even though he often ended up at one end!!:( re the pillow we got told none till 2? but he looks weird being so old without a pillow:)
I agree I think a one year old would be fine. Really SIDS is a combination of things as well. Like having a well ventilated room free of pet hair, smoke free ect. So at the age I doubt very highly a bumper would be a problem.
Hayden has also had bumpers since he went into cot at 4mths but we did use a safety sleep til 11months so it wasnt an issue. He ends up all over the show now so a pillow would be a waste lol. I think if you are confident that you little one can move around if he got a little wedged then he'll be fine. I actually thread our bumper through the bars and make sure its wedged a few inches below the mattress, as well as tie it on - so its pretty secure.
you can get a bumper thing called an airwrap that prevents them getting legs etc stuck in bars but are breatheable. We never had anything like that, but I've read about them.. you can get them at the sleep store this is the link to the info on it :)
