Topic: Sleeping bags & Tummy sleeping Posted: 07 August 2009 at 10:20am |
My little man defies plunket rules & is a tummy sleeper.
He's also getting rather large (almost too big for 0-3 month clothes now)...
I spend half my time in town and the other half out at our farm, so he has to sleep in different beds to a sleep bag would be good for some consistency.
I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with tummy sleepers and sleep bags? I had him in a baby gown once and he hated it as he moved his knees up and then I think he couldnt wriggle how he wanted to, but that was a while ago now.
Also, what is your favourite bag? There are so many styles now, with domes at the shoulders, and zips down the side and as the merino one's (which would be my preference as the farm can be cold) are quite expensive I'd like to hear the good the bad and the ugly

Jackson is a tummy sleeper and copes just fine with a sleeping bag. Sometimes it's a bit twisted but he doesn't seem to care. He wriggles around quite happily in it.
We have only used the Merino Go Go Bag ones, so I can't compare. However, I can rate these very highly! He's always nice and warm, they wash well and can be tumble dried.
You can get good 2nd hand ones on TradeMe.
The Go Go Bags also have domes at the arms, so smaller babies can be made more snug, and holes for the centre carseat strap to go through. We've used it on several occassions when transferring Jackson from someone's house to the car when he's been asleep. Very useful.

Issy was in a go go bag just about from birth (they also do newborn sized bags)
Weve never used any other but we love ours .. she has just gone into toddler sized bags, and we have the baby sized ones for Elias.
I dont think gro bags have seat belt holes, so you might want to check that out.

Sophie has been a tummy sleeper since as soon as she could move (about 5 months).
When she was about 4 months I transitioned her from her wrap to a go go bag and it has never been a problem. They are not cheap but they are great quality and wash and dry well (in the dryer). Sophie is quite tall and is still fitting in her 0 - 2 bag fine. I like that I have not had to buy one every 6 months or so like with some brands, as I am sure that would end up costing more.

Since Arianne started rolling around 5 months she has taken to sleeping on her tummy.
I think nearly every baby sleeps on their tummy its kinda hard to stop aswell who wants to be awake all night turning the baby over. I know I don't.

Hey hun
Jayden has been in merino kids bag since he was probably 6 weeks old, they have the domes that do up under the armpits for NB's that we used, Jayden hated being wraped so I used a sleeping bag early on, they are fantastic! last ages too, we will need to get the next size up probably in the next 3-6 months. You can get dif weight ones too - you could get the standard weight one and put blankets for the farm? if you think the winter one maybe a bit late? although you will use the winter one next year although standard one you can use in warmer weather too....look on the sleep store website sometimes they have good deals on two weights...let me know if you want me to bring them tues for you to have a look I will have them on me FB me though cause I prob wont get a chance to check here

Once Tyde went from being wrapped on back to Peke Moe sleeping bag on tummy he was happy as! (he could roll at that stage so got to tummy by himself. Sleeping bags are great to keep them covered wherever they end up in the cot, and as you say as a 'sleep cue!' :)

We got Eve into the Merino Kids Go Go Bag when she was four months old, and it's always been great, highly recommend it, even though it is expensive, they last ages, wash well as others have said. Since about 5 months she started getting really mobile in the cot and it's never been a problem.

It sounds like I will really have to get a go go bag.... Everyone has been raving about them.

I did end up getting merino kids go go bag - and highly reccommend them. Sleeping routine is heaps better, and they fit him really well because he's a little round around the middle! :)
Expensive - but worth it. Especially if you need something for a non-swaddled child! I know they say you can swaddle them in the sleep bags with one arm out(?) but I don't see that working really... would be better with a peke moe like above!

I used the winter weight gogo bags for my two and they were fantastic! In fact I just sold them onto another OB member. They are expensive but so very worth it. I used the weight weight during the summer months as well so I think you get more use out of a winter weight than a summer weight. Our two are also tummy sleepers however we didn't use the gogo bags until they were 4 months as we swaddled until then.
