1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks?
I can't really remember, I think at 28 weeks

2. What washing powder/liquid do you use for your baby's clothes etc, and why that brand?
ecostore or cold water surf, it was just what we had so thats what got used

3. What does your baby sleep in (as in, clothes then blankets etc.)?
Daniel was a june baby and he just had a long sleeve onsie and an all in one jumpsuit thing then flanalette sheet and 2 woolen blankets but we had a heater on low in his room all the time

4. Is there anything that you wish you had bought, that you didn't?
It's been too long I don't remember really lol

5. Is there anything that you thought was a waste of money?
I got some small flanelette wraps from baby factory which were a waste of time, way too small. Cute as outfits in newborn size, they never really got used at all, would have been better to get more practical stuff for those little sizes.

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that?
I used the sample tube of benpanthen (sp?) and I've only needed that once so its barely even been touched

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change?
No, he never gets anything on his butt unless its needed which is extremely rare

8. What do you use in the bath?
Nothing

9. When did you first start producing colostrum? If you were early/late, did it have any bearings on whether you had problems feeding?
I started leaking early, at 25weeks from memory and I had a massive supply of milk. I had heaps of problems feeding but that was due to Daniel and having massive boobs lol

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived?
Not that I can think of

11. How often do you use your pram?
I used my pram pretty rarely in the early days until I started going out for walks for exercise, it was easier to just carry bubs.

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy?
I got them off tm so got a bulk lot of 3 summer and 3 winter and it was perfectly adequate

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed?
I got an old lazyboy off TM and had that in his room, it was fantastic

1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks?
After 20 weeks- with my first it was about 20 weeks, with my 2nd well - they were all still there from the 1st!

2. What washing powder/liquid do you use for your baby's clothes etc, and why that brand?
Persil sensitive - that is what I use for all our washing, never had any issues so I stick with it!

3. What does your baby sleep in (as in, clothes then blankets etc.)?
Depending on the season - winter usually singlet, all in one, swaddle wrap then sheet & blanket.

4. Is there anything that you wish you had bought, that you didn't?
Nothing I can think of!

5. Is there anything that you thought was a waste of money?
Only all the clothes I went overboard buying - too much in each size - heaps of things were unworn and didn't even have the tags removed!

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that?
Depends on the baby - my 1st never really got rashes, my 2nd did - used tui bee balm and also bepthenan (sp) as these worked the best for him.

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change?
No - only if red or a bit rashy.

8. What do you use in the bath?
Baby body wash - no particular brand.

9. When did you first start producing colostrum? If you were early/late, did it have any bearings on whether you had problems feeding?
Very late pregnancy - no issues with feeding.

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived?
That the night wakings would be much worse than just 1 or 2 in the first few weeks!! LOL!

11. How often do you use your pram?
Every time we go out! I am not one for using my capsule as a pram - is not good for baby's back to be in it for extended periods.

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy?
Two

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed?
Propped up in bed.

1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks?
Didn't get any new ones. I had a few on my bum/hips from gaining a lot of weight when I was younger and these became a bit more visible in the last trimester.

2. What washing powder/liquid do you use for your baby's clothes etc, and why that brand?
Cold water surf - sensitive, because I can't use most laundry powders and this is what I use (and it's cheap), or ecostore powder because it has less chemicals (and I love the way her clothes feel after being washed in it).

3. What does your baby sleep in (as in, clothes then blankets etc.)?
last winter (as a newborn) she slept in a cotton singlet, woolen button crutch singlet, nightie or sleepsuit. Then wrapped, in sheets, cotton thermal blanket folded to fit bassinet so double layered, then a woolen blanket.

4. Is there anything that you wish you had bought, that you didn't?
a play gym for floor time. It would have been easier then setting up rows of toys.

5. Is there anything that you thought was a waste of money?
The bumper thingy that goes around the cot.

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that?
We don't get napy rash much, mainly after immunisations. Sudocream works really well when it looks sore (I got a sample in my bounty pack and it worked). And I love ecostore bottom balm (all natural ingrediants)

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change?
Yes, just a very thin coat of vaseline.

8. What do you use in the bath?
a few drops of huggies extra-sensitive wash when she was little.

9. When did you first start producing colostrum? If you were early/late, did it have any bearings on whether you had problems feeding?
I didn't get colostrum until 2days post partum, and my milk didn't come in until day 5. I didn't get skin-to-skin contact at delivery, and Elizabeth was flown to wellington without me so it was day 2 when I got to hold her, and I was expressing. In the long run, breastfeeding has been much easier after those first 6 weeks.

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived?
How hard it was going to be. Sleep deprivation makes it so hard to think!

11. How often do you use your pram?
Not much now but LOTS to start with.

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy?
3 - one for on the bed, one for in the laundry, and one spare in case of power pukies.

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed?
Where ever I sat down. Often sitting in bed, sometimes in a chair with a blanket over us (I kept a blanket on the chair so I didn't have to find one)

1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks? Ummm I think it was really close to the end like in the last 2 or 3 weeks that they got REALLY bad lol

2. What washing powder/liquid do you use for your baby's clothes etc, and why that brand? Am-o-Lin Sensitive for babies. I love the smell I always associate it with my girls now

3. What does your baby sleep in (as in, clothes then blankets etc.)? For the first 6 months they were swaddled and had sheets, blankets, duvet. Now they only use gogo bags

4. Is there anything that you wish you had bought, that you didn't? Not that I can think of. I have 10 nieces & Nephews so we had hand me downs galoor!

5. Is there anything that you thought was a waste of money? We did buy way too many clothes while I was pregnant! But they resold well on trademe considering I had something like 30 items that were never worn once!

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that? Have not had nappy rash. I attribute it to not using normal wipes.

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change? Nothing :) We use the Johnsons nappy liners (they look like chux cloths) with some water. We keep it simple.

8. What do you use in the bath? Eco store products

9. When did you first start producing colostrum? If you were early/late, did it have any bearings on whether you had problems feeding? I was waking up in puddles of it most nights from around 18 weeks! Yet I had major problems feeding (go figure) I never produced enough milk and gave up after a month

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived? Don't listen to anyones advice other than your Mothers

11. How often do you use your pram? Every day!

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy? We currently only have 2 sets for each cot, but could really use 3.

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed? We used to take shifts as the girls didn't sleep at night for the first couple of months. So I would sleep from 6pm till 1am then Jess would go to bed and I would stay up from 1am till 6pm. It worked really well for us as we both got solid sleep each night. We would just keep them in the lounge in there feeding chairs :) Haha I so don't envy you chic those first few weeks are full on with 2! But you'll love every minute.

1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks? I can't remember sorry, was well over 5 years ago now

2. What washing powder/liquid do you use for your baby's clothes etc, and why that brand? Eco Store, or any other eco brand. Why - because of the nappies

3. What does your baby sleep in (as in, clothes then blankets etc.)? what ever he was wearing as a new born. It wasn't untill they got to 6-9 months that they started wearing day stuff and night stuff. Wrapped for a few months and then just blankets and a duvet.

4. Is there anything that you wish you had bought, that you didn't? Hammock

5. Is there anything that you thought was a waste of money? Cute NB clothes - they so don't need them - 2 outfit is cool but more than that is a pain in the arse to get them in.

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that? I ended up with using some pretty serious stuff as the only time Josh got nappy rash it got really bad.

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change? nope

8. What do you use in the bath? Johnsons bedtime bath

9. When did you first start producing colostrum? If you were early/late, did it have any bearings on whether you had problems feeding? Andrew 3 days before I had him and had big issues with feeding. Josh I can't remember but had no issues with feeding.

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived? Yes with Andrew I wish I was told by the hospital staff (as my MW had to dash to Tauranga from Palmy for a family emergency) to wake Andrew the day after he was born to feed him. He ended up very Jaundice as I let him sleep for 8 hours straight.

11. How often do you use your pram? Very often with Andrew, not so often with Josh as walking with Andrew was a mission. But when he was at DC Josh went for walks.

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy? Cot - 3 Bassinett - none, my mum made a heap out of old flannelette sheets

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed? Both boys I fed in the lounge, I could feed in bed. It was warm because of the fire!!!

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Fin! I love random questions hehe

1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks?
40weeks. exactly.

2. What washing powder/liquid do you use for your baby's clothes etc, and why that brand?
After trying a few, we now use Am-O-Lin and a few drops of tea tree oil.

3. What does your baby sleep in (as in, clothes then blankets etc.)? Onsie, (with singlets etc if it's cold). Also if it's cold we add a blanket or 2.
When she was all shiney and new we used blankets sideways and put the whole thing under the bassinette mattress and then the sides wrapped over her and tucked her in really tight and cosy.

4. Is there anything that you wish you had bought, that you didn't?
Nipple sheilds (we got them after a few days).

5. Is there anything that you thought was a waste of money?
Can't think of anything. But I am a mega budgeting maniac.

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that?
Lately we have used Bepanthen. It's the only brand I recognise here. She's hardly ever had nappy rash though.

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change?
Nope, just for over night or if it's a bit red.

8. What do you use in the bath?
A teeny bit of Johnsons nighttime stuff. No soap. Some aquacream stuff from the drs.

9. When did you first start producing colostrum? If you were early/late, did it have any bearings on whether you had problems feeding?
About 24 weeks. No problems with supply unless I don't eat enough.

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived?
New babies are stinky when they first come out lol. I wish I had told mum they are purple/blue, she was at the birth and thought Jody was dead when her head was out. Poor mum!

11. How often do you use your pram?
Nearly everyday.

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy?
We were given heaps, but only used 2 or 3 sets. We only use the bottom sheet.

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed?
In my bed, so cosy, lying down.

Very true! I would highly recommend getting easy clothes to put on small bubs. I have a four drawer set for Nova and I haven't even opened 3 of them to use those clothes. I pretty much re-use the same 4-5 outfits of the 25-30 size000 she has. You really don't need that many.

1. When did you first get/notice stretchmarks?
Didn't get them (thank goodness)

6. What do you use for nappy rash and why did you choose that? either bepanthan (if a little bit sore), sudocream (if it is bad or for overnight) or curash powder (to dry). If it is really bad - daktozin

7. Do you put something on your baby's bum for EVERY nappy change? only if it is sore, most of the time nothing

8. What do you use in the bath? nothing most of the time, but for Sophie I used ecostore sleepytime bath to calm her (not a bath fan when she was small!)

10. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before your baby/ies arrived?

11. How often do you use your pram?
All the time, especially now I have 2 - love my p&t!

12. How many sets of sheets did you buy?
2 but 3 would have been better

13. For feeding at night, where do you feed?
armcahir in babies room - good as they get older as nice place for cuddles & stories too. Mum gave me a chair for Sophie's room and I found a chair at a second hand shop for Amy's room

Hrmmm...but just YOUR mother?? What about the MIL?? This is where I get stuck so come on here instead LOL, as DH and I were raised completely different and our mothers both have different ideas - I am the last of 6 children, DH is the oldest of 2.

These answers are soooo helpful. It's the practical advice that new mums need I think - and as I'm not going to make the majority of my ante-natal classes because they don't start until I'm 32 weeks, any information is good!!

I did have another question, but I've forgotten it now. Typical!!

I tend to listen to my mum instead of my MIL. She obviously did a great job with raising 3 kids inc DH BUT there are things she did that i just dont agree with (giving baby solids at 4 weeks to settle baby) and my views are much the same as my mum so ask her alot of the time.
