Topic: Is this it? Aargh who knows lol Posted: 16 May 2009 at 12:33pm |
Ok so baby was due yesterday/today.... I am definately getting a lot more tightening- quite sore tightenings- and baby has gone a lot quieter today than previously, although I can still feel her moving. These pains are coming more often and seem to affect my whole bump, although lower down more as well now. Also had a watery leak this morning that ran down my leg, but as DF and I had ahem you know what, I wondered if that was something else (TMI...IYKWIM?! )....OMG the things we talk about on here! lol. That hasn't happened to me before either which is why I wondered hmmmm. But I haven't lost my 'plug' (that I know of) so perhaps it was nothing important.
I guess time will tell if thse are real contractions starting? I thought I'd have to have a really sore back (it's mildly sore) and lots of hard out period type cramps to be considered in labour? My mw is off call for the weekend (typical) and I'm doing ok, not in awful pain or anything so I don't want to call DF back home if I can help it. Shall I just tally ho and wait and see? My mw said last week that even though I'm due today, she didn't think I'd give birth this weekend cos I didn't look 'desperate' enough lol...but I think that's not ness a great indicator...is it?!

Know it's in the wrong area, but I thought I'd reply anyway.
It sounds (to me) like your body is certainly getting ready for something. Sore tightenings were how it started (a few hours before it really started) for me, both times...but even if it's not the beginning of labour, it still sounds like SOME kind of preperation is going on.
I never lost my 'plug' in either of my pregnancies, not until I was in established labour. I never had period like cramps either, no way would I describe contractions like that...mine were aching tightenings, that progressed into a painful pressure low down and in my back, that just got progressively worse.
As for not being 'desperate' enough, lol, I saw my midwife the day before my due date, and she commented that I was looking "chipper" (lol, may have looked it...didn't feel it) so obviously labour was a wee while off. However I went into labour that night, and my baby was born on her exact due date.
Good luck, fingers crossed.

Wow thanks for that bubnumber2....these don't feel like period cramps...more like hard tightenings around my bump..which actually is feeling just hard and sore and uncomfortable most of the time now. My backs a little sore but not as much as my bump. I mentioned in my new thread that I'v popped a pad in and it seems pretty damp...but not sure if that's my waters or just normal pg stuff. I just assumed that I would really 'know' when labour started as it would be so unbearably painful...and I guess I will know eventually but it would be nice to know a little in avance if I should be calling my Mum (who's gonna be at the birth) and tell her to get ready cos she has a good 1.5 hour drive to make! And I don't want to disturb anyone if this isn't the real thing IYKWIM.....

I can't believe your midwife said you didn't look desperate enough?? I looked pretty desperate at 40 weeks and was 2 weeks late. Def sounds like the beginning of something- keep an eye on the amount of fluid coming out, if you have to keep changing pads you might be on the way.
Good luck

Things are getting more oowwee here...tightenings more regular but no real pain or anything...so I guess this could go on for days.... Still, we're sending the stepkids off to their Nana's for the night just incase..and I shall ring Mum soon and put her on standby.
Thanks for all the good wishes and advice...I so hope this is it!

*labour vibes!* I had a couple of days of latent labour with Maya where it was kind of "will she or won't she" but she decided on coming out.

Maya- good to hear she did finally come out! lol
I'm sure I'm not imagining this...the soreness is getting more regular but still not doubling me over or anything...bit ow now at times though! Have just spoken to Mum and she's probably gonna come over tonight...I'll feel SO stink if baby decides she's just mucking about and not gonna do anything else! Wish they came with a timetable so I put out as few people as possible.

It definitely sounds like things are starting! With Maya I had irregular contractions that got gradually more painful over the course of a day and a half so similar to what you're having, then when they got too intense I went to hospital and she was born a few hours later.

haha that sounds good...not that there is going to be a next time!! We are due to be induced on the 25th if need be but I'd really rather not if at all poss.....
I'll be so embarrassed if it turns out to be a false alarm (another one)...but this time is much more regular and sore...but still nothing overly painful or uncopable IYKWIM? Mum's coming over anyway I think...I guess better safe than sorry!

Just don't do what I did and send her home lol - my support person came over and I sent her home coz I didn't think it was really happening, then had to call her back an hour later to take me to the hospital

lol dont be embarressed if its a false alarm karen, I had made a few threads of 'am I in labour" and they were all false alarms lol, even after hours of painful contrations , when I finally did go into labour, my waters fully broke and contractions started and they hurt like biarch lol.
Good luck and I hope this is it for you hun

You could be in labour hun. Sometimes it goes very quick.
I didn't think I was in labour, cause didn't have any contractions, just backpain, and within 2 hours it got really sore and mw told me to meet her at the hospital. Still hadn't finished packing my bag, cause even though I had felt a few pangs during the afternoon I believed my mw who told me I was sure to go overdue, so I figured it was all false alarm (I was 2 days early) .
Maybe get your mum on standby.
And GOOD LUCK !!!!

lol thanks guys...well Mum is on her way as she optimistically doesn't think I'll make it till morning...I rather think I will but we shall see! I hope it's the real thing.
Still loads of tightenings which weirdly settle slightly if I sit but are much worse if I move around. Baby is quite quiet too, very unlike her! Sore back and just feeling restless as anything They certainly don't seem to be easing up but they're also not making me cry or anything so I guess that's why I'm feeling doubtful.
I hate this waiting!

I'm putting updates in the May thread when Karen texts me, but the gist of it so far is that she was up all night with regular pains till 5am when she got 3hrs sleep. Her MW thinks she's in early labour but is meeting her at hospital at 11:15am just to be sure Check May thread later for updates if I forget to come back in here

lol thanks Rachel...I've left a scattering of people waiting to hear what happened! Here's a cut and paste from the May thread:
had painful contractions all night, esp between 3-5am and we all thought well this is it! But then they eased off and by the time I got the guts to call my relief mw (I hate disturbing people lol), it was about 9.30am.
So we meet at hospital and she monitors me and bubs (who is happy as larry in there...come UP a bit grrrrr and turned slightly posterio...grrrr again), then does a rather unpleasant internal to check if I've started dilating yet. The short answer is no but my cervix is soft and thinning (sounds like an old person haha) I needed to use gas by this stage as it wax a *very* internal' internal IYKWIM? plus I was still having some contractions, but pleased I got to try the entonox. It was great
Anyway, mw advises that baby could come tonight...or in the next day or so..but hopefully she *is* coming and we won't make that appointment on Thursday for scans etc. I'm hoping baby comes tonight because ....*she said whispering*: I like my relief mw more than my regular one...lol
