I was a runner pre pregnancy - marathons. As I had two previous MC I have stopped all sport at the moment. My 7 wk scan showed a lovely heart beat and my 9 week scan is tomorrow. I have no preg symptoms, just got a tumm! No sickness, tiredness.
Just wanting to hear from other Mums who were runner pre preg, did you keep running, did you have any problems, have you run right through pregnancy etc. Just keen to hear others stories!

Thanks

Congrats on getting pregnant and having a healthy heart beat so far!

Yup I'm a runner :) I did my first marathon 3 months before getting pregnant.

So I was running pre-pregnancy, then stopped for the whole of 1st tri just 'cos I was so tired all the time. I walked heaps though - and then always crashed afterwards.

2nd tri I felt better so ran regularly but no more than 10 km each time.

3rd tri back to walking. I found that as my belly got bigger, I was getting heaps of round ligament pain and it wasn't fun any more.

Post pregnancy, I started running again after 5 weeks (had an emergency caesarean) and did a 1/2 marathon PB when bubs was 5 months.

Nowadays I'm just running for fun when I get the opportunity - it's harder in winter when the days are shorter and I like the weekends to be for family time.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

I was a runner pre-pregnancy too, only half marathons and 10kms runs though! I did a 10km fun run when I was about 10 weeks pregnant and that was my last attempt until after I had DD!

I kind of lost interest during pregnancy really, but am back into it now of course

I'm a runner and never saw any harm in doing it while pregnant. Although I was a high risk pregnancy with twins so my Doc told me to ease back and stick to walking. I'd check with your MW or Doctor first but I'd say you'd be A.O.K.

I have to admit I was always too tired to be bothered during pregnancy anyway

I am too tired to do anything except walk, cycle on the wind trainer and light weights sometimes. I figure this is better than nothing, but I don't push myself too much or beat myself up if i miss a day or two.

Personally if I had had any MCs, I wouldn't run or do much exercise at all apart from walking.
Its not worth the risk- I know people who have had prem babies and they think it may have been because they did too much exercise during preg.

You can always go back to running afterwards.

I'm a runner too, but I have found it really uncomfortable to run with my belly, so been walking (only about 3k). Have lost heaps of fitness but I just find I get so tired for the rest of the day if I do much more than that. Also been doing the preggie bellies DVD its pretty good.
Can't wait to get back fit again!

I ran pre pregnancy and stopped when I fell pregnant as I had a previous mc I ended up giving it up for the entire pregnancy as I didnt want to put myself at any risk (probably more in my head than anything) I was also to tired and ended up getting hypertension and pre-eclampsia anyway but I have just started getting back into it!

I have a personal trainer and I see her for a session every fortnight- she says not to worry about the loss of fitness it is totally normal and you can get it back again afterwards if you work hard enough.
Walking is better than nothing and when I get bigger am going to try swimming again.

I am going to buy that Preggi Bellies DVD today it sounds really good.
