Ava (7 1/2 months) has just started finger food. So far i have given her rusks, mandarin segments and banana. If i give her toast, what size do i make it to reduce the risk of her stuffing it all in her mouth and choking?

What are other easy to deal with finger foods for beginners?

sushi... brocolli, carrots, heaps of stuff...

i cut the toast into four so she has something to hang on to... no matter how small or big they always try to stuff it in anyway...

We're not quite into finger food yet but getting there ... still tackling the more lumpy mashed foods at the moment. Still getting the hang of chewing and using those new teeth.

You don't HAVE to let bubs self-feed right from the start. You can feed her wee bits of finger food at first to get her used to the idea and then later on give some to her to eat herself.

When we start finger food we plan to introduce things like cooked vege pieces, corn and rice thins (the big round ones), fruit segments, egg slices, etc.

I tend to cut the toast in half then each half into 3 so 6 bits but that is only cos Hayden has a death grip when it comes to vegemite toast and half the piece gets anihilated in his fist so a smaller bit means he has to be more careful putting the yummies in his mouth.

Other finger foods... cubes of cheese or grated, broken up cracker/cruskit, avocado on cracker, pear pealed and quartered, carrot sticks / brocolli steamed, cooked peas, baby rice cakes or regular ones broken up, home made muffins (low sugar/fat) - from around 7mths Hayden would try anything that Mummy and Daddy were eating and we'd just pop a piece in his mouth and he quickly got the hang of holding to his own pear and not using the fresh food feeder, now he will pick up food from his tray but he tends to get either tired or bored so I end up helping him along most lunch times.

Yeah I agree, I cut Caden's into four as well and he still tries to shove the lot in his mouth, he did the same with fingers of toast as well.

Caden is having, madarin segments, banana, toast, brocolli, cauliflower, pea's, raisons, grated cheese..all sorts of stuff.
