    Posted: 28 April 2009 at 11:50am
Im almost 7wks pregnant and have an 8month old son who i am still breastfeeding - i would love to continue to breastfeed him through the pregnancy and then tandem feed after but right now i am so sick that i cant keep any food down. Yesterday i kept down one banana and that was it. This is really worrying me because how am i meant to grow a baby and feed a baby when i cant keep any food down. Ive lost 2kgs in the last week which bring me down to 57kgs. I can barely pick up my son im so weak. Sorry this is such a complaining post i would just really like to hear from others who are either going through this, have been through this or have any ideas on what i can do to get through this.
THANKS

Go to the docs and get some anti nausea pills. They may not take away the nausea feeling completely but they should stop you throwing up and they are safe during pregnancy.

Can you keep anything down whatsoever? It might be worth it to go in and see if you cant get as high calorie supplement feed thing like Complan perhaps or something. So even if you can just take a small amount in that it is high in calories.

Sorry didnt breastfeed while I was pregnant and hope you feel sooner. But really go and see either your midwife of GP and see what they can suggest for you to take.

Fingers crossed you can get some anti-nausea tablets.
I'm BFing my 14 mth old daughter (only one feed a day now) and hoping to continue throughout pregnancy and tandem feed too.

I haven't had the nausea that you're having but I can tell you it's a much harder pregnancy this time around feeding two babies.

hang in there.

Well i went to the dr and theres nothing she can do. she said that the anti nausea meds that i can take while breastfeeding (theres only one type) she wouldnt perscribe for me this early in pregnancy. She also said that if i didnt start keeping food down that i would have to go into hospital on a drip and kindly suggested that i might like to consider stoping breastfeeding - this really p**** me off because i asked if stoping would ease my ms and she said probably not but that i shouldnt feel bad about stoping because ive given him 8months. Now ive got nothng against anyone who formula feeds but i am able to breastfeed and enjoy it and was really annoyed that she was suggesting i stop. She also tried to tell me that henry wouldnt miss it and that its me who is attatched to it. GRRRRRRRRRR i was so annoyed. Sorry for the long post really had to get that off my chest

That was pretty unsympathetic of her. I imagine she's probably got new baby and your best interests at heart but she was about a subtle as a sledgehammer

Can you get more information maybe? Like try La Leche League and see if they can help - maybe they know of a GP that could give you a second opinion.

ETA: Also maybe you could drop the amount of BF you do with your son temporarily until the nausea passes (assuming it isn't with you the whole pregnancy). Like if you're doing 4 or 5 drop down to 1 or 2 and do formula for the others. That way you'll get to keep some of your energy and he won't forget how to suckle.

Hi Angel! Been there, done that & got the t-shirt. I had pretty bad preggy sickness (I won't call it "morning" sickness coz it was worse than that) with all three of my kids & I breastfed all the way through my 2nd 2 pregnancies & then tandemfed as well. I had the drips & the hospital visits.
I would highly recommend that you got to a health shop, get some natural stuff for your nausea & vomitting. Try sea sickness bands as well, I discovered them in my 3rd pregnancy & they helped. Accupuncture is good too. They don't completely take it away but they do help.
Now the nausea & sickness is caused mainly by low blood sugar levels. I know it is hard but if you can keep eating little & often even while feeling sick & after throwing up it will eventually come right. I used to find eating straight after throwing up helped keep the 2nd lot down LOL! Morning is the worst because of not eating through the night so grab some healthy snacks to pop on your bedside, set your alarm for half way through the night & have a midnight snack. Remember water is really really important. I put a couple of drops of lime juice in my water so it isn't so blnd.
At the very wost if you do end up having to go & get a drip put in then it really isn't the end of the world. The reason for this is more because of dehydration rather than for weight purposes.
Best of luck! And if you ever need any advice on tandem feeding them I'm your lady!
I had son #1 in 2004, 19 months later (after breastfeeding the whole way through) I had son #2. Tandem fed them for a YEAR, weaned son #1 and then 2 months later promptly got myself up the duff with my daughter. Again breastfed all the way through the pregnancy & then tandemfed them for about 9months. Just weaned #2 about 2 months ago so just feeding DD who is coming up one... Will probably wean her before she is three if she is like her brothers

If I were you, I would be going to another Dr. That Dr sounds horrible. You are allowed to be angry.

I had the anti nausea pils while I was preganant from about 12 weeks and its the same one I got in hospital when Ruby was about a week old and they were safe for breast feeding.

I can totally understand that you dont want to give up breastfeeding and there must be a way around it! It must be so tiring for you trying to give yourself energy and feed two little ones

Have you tried any natural remedies? Personally I couldnt find anything that worked so I just told the Dr I wanted pills!

ive tried all the ginger ones (ginger seems to make me vomit *sigh) and i wear seabands which kinda lessen it a bit but not much. I think i will talk to a different dr. I thought this one would understand a bit more though as she has a 15month old and is due in a couple weeks with her second. I guess i assumed wed be on the same page but apparently she doesnt believe there's any benefit to breastfeeding beyond 6months. Im getting through it slowly - i havent been doing anything else but looking after henry and resting. My poor dh hasnt had dinner cooked in 2weeks and i do the bare minumum of cleaning, Mums being great she comes round once a week and helps me clean. Im just gonna stay possitive and determined i know i can do this with a bit of will power
