I'm giving my POV from the dont' want to spend extra money POV.
Dunno about 8 nursing bras, I only have 4 now & only had 3 up til recently. Unless you can get them cheaply from an outlet.
You dont need a buggy sleeping bag you can use blankets & if you have a rain cover/plastic cover they are like a little hot house anyway.
Actually might quote your post & do it that way.

hope this helps somewhat
Clothes presuming these are various sizes & you usually get given a bit of newborn clothing or the 000 size, I'd be inclined to get body suits to stop everything riding up.

Thanks guys, lol.
Agree with all you've said so far, so keep ripping it apart lol DP will be proud of you all
Some things like the bassinet are hand me downs so not costing anything...
silly question, is 000 new born or 0000? can i just get 000 size stuff or will the baby be swimming in it?

How big was Mia? & are you carrying the same sizeish as you were with her? might give you an indication of bubs to be's size?
Oh definitely utilise trademe.
New born is 0000. 0-3 is 000, 3-6 is 00.
If you are using cloth then you will basically need the next size up in bodysuits unless you get extenders.
Oh your nursing pads, I'd think that 3 pairs would be enough? mind you depends on your boobs & what you were like last time.

Issy wore nb and it was huge on her (and she was average sized) .. so we have nb sizes for Elias.
I also wouldnt think you would need four sheets .. (or blankets) .. or three wraps lol
Two of each would be plenty (IMO)
Im not sure what a dirty nappy bag is .. we just used plastic bags lol
Oh and we never had a crawl mat either .. if we were at home she was on her playgym mat .. and if we went out we made do with a blanket.

Hmmmm, rip it apart you say
Merino and cotton is a great idea, my winter baby lived in layers of both, and most of our swaddle wraps were merino for extra warmth.
Nightgowns are brilliant, I wouldn't bother with tops and pants AND AIO's, choose one or the other or a combo of both but you really only need say 6 changes of clothes all up so maybe 3 top and pant sets and 3 AIO's?
You can never have too many hats and socks - you can never find them when you need them. Booties are a waste of time, they don't stay on.
Pillowcases make great hammock sheets.
I disagree with lil fatty re: wraps - I had about 6 and I used them all, I found if she spilled it was usually the wrap that wore it.
I never bothered with NB size clothes at all, even on Sienna who was only 6lb8oz - they all went straight into 000. It's not like it matters if it's a wee bit big, they're not exactly going to trip over it!
Agree with lil fatty re: blankets - if you swaddle you will probably only need one or two blankets as the swaddle will keep baby warm.
I wouldn't bother with long sleeve and short sleeve singlets, choose one or the other and 6 should be heaps.
2 cardigans is heaps. I found lil miss hardly needed cardigans/jackets etc as when we went out she was mostly swaddled and asleep. By the time she started being awake more (around 3 mths) it was warmer.
Leg warmers are great and really funky but not a neccessity. I didn't put them on my babies till they were crawling.
Agree with Aliasmum re: nursing bras. I only had 3 to start with, I now have 5 but I wanted to make sure I was going to stick with breastfeeding before I bought more.
Baby carrier/wrap is a great idea, I love mine but maybe best to wait till baby has arrived before you buy one so you can try it out first as different people suit different things.
Don't bother too much with toiletries, like ALiasmum said you'll get heaps of samples which will help you work out what suits your baby's skin.
Hope this helps some.
Oh and with my winter baby, the two best things I had were the (hired) snap and go wheels and the storm cover for the capsule. If it was pouring down I could put the cover on inside and put her in the car with it on then get the whole capsule out and snap it into the wheels while she stayed dry under the cover and it meant I wasn't fussing about with shifting her into the buggy in the rain. The snap and gos cost about $40 to hire and the storm cover was about $20.

If you are buying normal singlets, get them in a 00 - the only difference in sizes to start with is the length and having them long is handy in winter (plus you'll get twice the wear)
3 pairs of pants will be plenty
Keep in mind - bubs isn't walking so socks won't get dirty, and you don't wear socks with AIO's much.
Nighties are fantastic (even during the day with a cardigan over the top and leg warmers and socks)
I'd choose between the hammock or the bassinet, I only used a bassinet with my girl.
If you get 3 sets of cot sheets and 1 or 2 fitted bassinet sheets that will be heaps, a folded cot sheet threaded under the bassinet matress tucks in nicely around both sides making a lovely warm cocoon.
I'd get 4 towels personally, I used 5 with my NB, sometimes you end up having 2 baths in a day thanks to poo explosions.
I still don't use soap - I liked fragrance-free wash. Vaseline, other then that the bounty hamper had heaps in to start with.
Never used a thermometer. Like the girls said, your wrist, or if your partner works with his hands the inside of the elbow.
Oh ETA, go in to the warehouse website, and put maternity bras as a favourite item, then you'll get an email when they go on special! You can do this with most items, so if you have time and are a good saver it's a great way to things a bit cheaper.

Thanks girls,
will scrap the extra bras and the thermometer, and sick with what ever I get given for NB clothing.
I was planning on getting one nice blanket for the baby, and sticking with the hand me downs I've been given for the rest.
The AIO are for DP, I hate them. So will happily cross them off the list and stick with the nighties.
Mia was only 7 7, but differnt father, so I've been told may be very different.
Thanks, I sound like a first timer, just feel like I've forgotten everything lol Hopefully it all comes back when the baby is born!

Hi - my thoughts on one item - try to buy all-in-ones with feet in them. And get the ones that do up the front - so you can quickly undo them and redress without having to fuss with tiny little t shirts and arms. Not the All-in-ones that only d up around the legs, as they are very long and ou have to get the whole baby in there like sauage - can be hard work at 3am with a wriggly little baby!
The kimono style all in ones are brilliant, I bought heaps of little tshirts and pants and never use them, cause the All-in-ones are way easier. Especially if they have feet. No little socks falling off all the time.
Merino Kids, Farmers, Dimples, Nature Baby and Cotton on have good ones. All ranges from expensive to super cheap.
Heres what I mean - hope this is helpful.

Lizze, I used AIOs and also wrapped Jody when she was teeny weeny. There is a very logical reason for this but my brain is not with me right now....
I think it was good to keep her little chicken chest warm when she learnt to get her arms/shoulders out (which didn't take long to learn)
I had WAY too many NB clothes for Jody, and she was 9lb 4oz, so a lot of brand new clothes were given away!

You might want to put mittens on your list - I originally bought some for my bub (3 pack from postie plus) just to avoid her scratching but now we use them at night in case she breaks free from her wrap, and whenever we go out (she's got her mothers' circulation and her little handies get cold fast)

be careful of overheating your winter baby... i know it sounds silly...but its exactly what i did. It turned out it was the very nice and cosy looking velour all in one...

on the mittens thing, as a newborn Ella's hands were too small for mittens so I ended up using newborn socks instead.
also with the AIO with feet- i found Ella grew out of those a lot faster and the ones with no feet were better value for money. For nightime I used a merino nightie (domes at the bottom) and it was brilliant (Ella liked it so much it is now her blankie).
