Topic: Hearing a heartbeat on a Doopler Posted: 17 March 2009 at 10:39pm |
Tonight when I was at the Dr he used the Doopler to listen (or try) to baby's heartbeat. While I couldnt hear one, he said it was beating at 166bpm.
Is this as good as hearing te heartbeat???
Last week at my MW appt at 15 weeks we could hear it quite clearly. So now Im a bit worried

The heart is beating hun, thats what you need to know! Did he refer you for a scan? I am sure if he had any concerns he would have.
Sounds like a good heart rate to me.

If he knows its beating at 166 then its beating and thats GREAT news, dont be worried at all. Sometimes I cant hear it well on the doppler but my MW can hear it and its always 130!(and a girl hehe, so puts that heartbeat theory to shame me thinks lol).

Yep it's fine - the ones the mw's use have the option to turn sound on/off but I guess they try to be a bit more personal about it than a dr IYGWIM.

Hey Rianna, if he had a hard time hearing babys heart it would most likely be because of where the baby is, the fact he heard it means its all sweet. I'm learning to find babys heart with a doppler at the moment and its really hard to get a good listen.

Phew!! Thanks ladies. Im feeling relieved now that Ive read your responses.
I know they can be a bit finikey to hear in the earlier stages which is why I was worried at 16 weeks.
Thanks everyone

grr I just typed out a reply and silly ohbaby told me I was spamming!
Gah, basicly what I typed was that yesterday my MW had trouble getting a reading of this babys heart cos she was moving so much and all you could hear was the wooshing and her kicking the doppler haha, she finally got a reading though once baby stayed still long enough.
