I AM LOOKING FOR SOME COMFORT.........
My boy is now 7 months old- super alert, super happy, super hyper! Love him to bits, but he is an awful sleeper! He will only sleep during the day if I drive him up and down the motorway! At night he wakes every hour or two. Seems I have read every book/artice/theory and tried it all! Nothing works! So I am asking, my fellow Mummys, will this get better? Has anybody been through this (solo mummy by the way!!!) and their little bundle of joy 'grew out of it' or got the hang of the sleeping debacle eventually without major surgery/medication/new parents???!!!!!

Goodness, you poor thing, you must be completely running on empty! Since you sound like you've tried lots of things I don't want to offer any advice, I'm sure you've heard it all, but I didn't want to read and run, just wanted to offer a virtual hug (and say welcome to OHbaby!). Sleep seems to wax and wane here, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's awful, I think lots of us have that experience but unfortunately it does seem that some babies need less sleep. (Although every hour or two at night suggests that he might just be trapped in a cycle of overtiredness )

Actually, I do have some advice - might be a good idea to email Louise at The Sleepstore? They're the experts on the subject and she might have some ideas that you haven't tried...

Hi, I with weegee try the sleepstore - I found there website just great for tips on getting bubs to sleep as a 1st timer I had absoultely no clues - I would go in and get bubs up after the 1st sleep cycle before she had try to settle ... after reading up about sleep at sleepstore.co.nz   I started to get a clue and things have been heaps better bubs now has a morning sleep (bottle, 45m - 1 hr play, sleep for almost 2 hours), then up for dressing, play if I have time before bottle or after if I close to fed time then out to do chores (sometimes she sleeps in car but the little cherub is getting to alert now for that trick), afternoon we do play (normally) before bottle (jolly jumper seems to work a treat), then bed for a couple of hours, then up for bath, bottle and bed, and finally we get her up for the last night bottle - off course we don't always win the sleep battle and we are about to start daycare so am expecting some changes - have a look at the site and goodluck.

Eek is he breastfed?

My boy (turning 2 next week) has only JUST started sleeping through, we weaned at 23.5 months ...prior to the weaning he was still waking 2-3 times per night.

Your wee one WILL grow out of it, if he's b/fed it's quite common for them to not sleep through. Although every 1-2 hours waking is pretty rough - you poor thing!

Hope you get some answers soon, sorry I'm not of much help

Oh you poor thing! I so feel for you . We had awful sleep problems with Dominic, he stopped sleeping almost all together at 3 months old. Turned out that my milk supply was low and he didn't have enough to sleep on but also was a very alert, happy baby and that does make it harder to get them into a sleeping pattern. By 4 months old we finally went to the family centre and they gave us a good routine and methods to stick to. It took a very long time though, he finally started going down for a nap well at 10mths. Since then he has a 2 hour nap everyday and goes to bed at 6pm each night. He still wakes a few times during the night but once or twice is managable.
I would definately recommend going to your local family centre (plunket can tell you where it is) and from then just choose a method that suits your parenting style and stick with it. It is really hard work but definately worth it.
Hang in there it will get better
