Topic: BBQs Posted: 15 March 2009 at 11:47am |
I am going to a BBQ next weekend, which I have been really looking forward to. But since I'm not doing the BBQ, I'm not sure whether it will be ok? I think I should avoid sausages, but what about steak? Even if they haven't cleaned the BBQ well, will the bacteria be killed by the heat?
What about all the salads everyone will be bringing? Safe to eat or not? I won't know how long beforehand they would have been prepared...
I'm just not sure. New to this pregnancy thing! Really appreciate advice from those that know :)
Thank you.

I have had many BBQs both out and at home. Meat had been fine for me and as long as the people have prepared their salads away from meat (which anyone with common sense should) etc I'm sure it will be fine.

If you are worried about the meat etc you can just put it in the microwave to reheat it properly before eating

I would probably just avoid chicken and try and eat meat that looks well cooked. I would think sausages would be ok if well cooked?
If I knew the people who had made the salad I would probably be ok about eating it but if not I would bring a salad and only eat that one!

Ive had BBQ's both at home and at other people's places as well and been fine with them. You should be ok with meat as long as its cooked all the way through and salads should be ok too as long as its not brought from a store pre-prepared.
If your really worried about salads, you could take your own, that way you know how its been prepared.
As for cleaning the BBQ as long as the meat is piping hot, any bacteria should be dead.

I had a BBQ last night and ate anything and everything. Mum and I prepared everything just before dinner and I even had a cold sasuage today.
I wouldnt eat things like coleslaw that had been sitting out for a hour or something tho. But apart from that, I generally eat most things.

I'd eat anything that I would if I wasn't pg. Eat meat that is hot and cooked through (you can reheat it if need be) and homemade salads don't usually cause any problems, it's the ones that sit around on cooled shelves for a whole day that are most likely to cause issue. So if it looks good, eat it

It will be fine Just make sure your meat isnt running red, and sausages will be fine.
Salads are all good, just ask if its been made fresh.

i agree with the rest...meat fine.
i would just watch the premade salad (as in store made)
and also those that are mixed with mayo already.
watch the dressings!
