Topic: Anyone else worried about drinking..... Posted: 12 March 2009 at 2:13pm |
Prior to finding out you were pregnant?
I found out I was pg @ 4wks 4 days and had a couple of moderate nights drinking without knowing I was pregnant. Not like stupid drunk, maybe 3-4 drinks at the most but it probably happened a few times.
My MW said oh don't worry about it etc, but it does kinda upset me. Does anyone else feel like this?
The worst bit is I did a test about 10 days after ov but it was neg so I thought oh well may as well have a few drinks with tea etc and I was pg after all!

Well - to be honest there isn't much worrying can do at this stage. Its probably not going to stop you though.
Given dumb ass ladies who drink throughout seem to be able to spit out healthy bubs - I doubt a few drinks before you had high enough hormones to be picked up in a test is anything to be worried about
Anway - I don't think the bean is actually attached to your bloodstream yet (someone correct me) but I thought they were running on the yolk sac until they got the placenta sorted which isn't at 4 weeks.

Yep, with my first I was five weeks when I found out and had no idea, definitely wasn't trying and didn't even slightly suspect... I had LOTS of drinks on several occasions one being my 21st! ...of course I stopped as soon as I found out and the guilt was awful!!
With my second (11 years later), although she was sort of planned in that we wanted a baby and weren't using protection, I had done a fair few HPTs and were neg so I assumed I wasn't (long irregular cycle makes it hard to know when I'm due) had a few drinks and then got a BFP 3 days later - found out later I was only 3 weeks 3 days then...
I gotta admit it scared me a lot throughout the pregnancy but you have to try to forget about it and enjoy being pregnant! Stress insn't good for bubs either...Millions of woman unknowingly do it before they know they are preg and go onto have perfect little babies.

The month I got pregnant with Hannah was also my birthday month.
My LMP was April 22.
We went out for a family dinner on my birthday (May 12th) and then again a week later.
I had a fair amount to drink on both occasions.
I found out on May 21st that I was pregnant.
I felt absolutely awful, but I have a very bright, happy, perfect little lady

Rico wasn't planned and just days before finding out I was pg, I had a few wines while out at lunch. It freaked me out when I got a + at the Drs and told my Dr I'd had alcohol just days before. She said it wouldn't hurt the baby and not too worry. When I went for a scan the following week to find out dates I was only 5wks 5days pg then, so only just 4 weeks when I had the wine.
Sure enough we have a healthy happy 5 yr old now!

I went to a cocktail party two nights before I found out I was pregnant with Michaela. I was late but thought nothing of it because I'd been late the month before too and I really didn't wanted to get my hopes up again as I'd been so upset by the BFN the month before.
I worried a lot in the early stages but was reassured by the fact that before 7-8wks the placenta isn't actually connected to your blood supply anyway and so all the babies nutrition is coming from the yoke sack.
This time around too I would have already been pregnant when DH and I had a very boozy night (hmmm, maybe this is a signal I drink too much lol) but I would have only been a couple of weeks pregnant at that stage so it's not bothered me.

I think it's a fairly common situation. Please don't stress because to be honest there is nothing you can do about it. I agree with the others that at the stage you were at the blood supply wasn't even connected so you should be okay. I have been told that we are advised not to drink because there are really no studies that can show a safe level to drink. I think it's those that regularly drink throught their pregnancy large amounts that are most at risk. Next are the regular social drinkers. I have heard that the odd one does not harm but in saying that I haven't had anything since I found out at just over 4 weeks.

Thanks everyone, I know there must be heaps of women in the same boat. I really hope the yoke sack thing protected my little bub. He/she is going crazy at the moment (I just had tea) so maybe its a sign its telling me not to worry

I had just given up on TTC as we had been told we needed IVF, so we had 3 rather boozy weekends in a row (this is after MONTHS of being careful about what I ate/drank, so was a blowout of sorts)
I got the fright of my life when the Thursday following the last (and the worst of the 3) boozy weekend showed up with a BFP putting me at just on 4 weeks! As others before me have said, at that early stage bubs isnt getting any blood flow from you since the placenta hasnt developed yet, therefore wouldnt be getting any of the alcohol, and there are plenty of women who go and drink regularly and 'oops I'm pregnant' kind of scenario...
oh and so far bubs is perfectly healthy and happily booting me in the ribs as I type...

Mine was a 'caution to the wind' holiday pregnancy.
So for 3 weeks I had drinkies most evenings, multiple SCUBA dives (1 deco), and 4 days eating everything in Japan. It wasn't until I was suffering from 'bad jetlag' that I thought it would be time to do a test.
I did feel a bit anxious about it initially but in reality both girls are absolutely perfect in every way.

I have never been a binge drinker, I rarely have more than a wine in a night. But I'm not too worried about drinking and conceiving.... there was a time when I did but with my DD3 I forgot about four times in my first trimester that I was actually pg and drank on those occasions!! Thankfully she turned out ok but I'm starting to subscribe to the theory that the odd glass - with food - is actually not harmful to baby.

I had a few drinks here and there before I knew, and I had a VERY big boozy night about 3 days (I think) before we conceived.
From the day of the ovulation copulation though I had my helpful booze-cop by my side (DH) reminding me that I might be pregnant and to ease off.
And he is always there to give me a friendly reminder now!
Sheeeeshh. Its Ok for him.

DP and I knew there was the possibility that we could be pregnant as we unintentionaly had a welcome home night (he had been in the islands for a week for his grandfathers funeral) but we were kinda working on the have been on birth control for 7yrs and literally only just came off it completely the week before. He had gone to work and told them about it (why I don't know cos thats what sort of people they are I guess, and probably cos he was soo excited haha) and I went into his work and asked for a glass of Pinot Gris, got told by his manager that he didn't feel comfortable serving me (egg, trying to be smart) but they did and I ended up getting quite tipsy, still managed to drive home after drinking a bottle of wine *slap on the hand*. Woke up the next morning thinking that I had a worse hangover then I normally get, but put that down to drinking the wine not my normal drink then about 4weeks later actually found out I was hapu. Had had a couple of vodka red bulls since the boozy nights before I found out as well, so bubbas probably used to being hyped up on sugar and guarana now. Baby is healthy tho, still just sitting in there
