When you got pregnant?
I *think* DH and I have decided to TTC as of Valentines day. So I kind of want to know what I'm in for. I know its different for everyone but some ideas would be nice.
I guess I want to know when did you become physically less competent at stuff? When will I have to stop carrying buckets of milk etc? Also, how did it affect you mentally? Does it really turn your brain to "hormonal cabbage" as my sister so kindly put it? And if so, when? I have 2 jobs atm, one of which requires me to be very mentally sharp, the other of which requires lots of physical work.
Thanks heaps!

In my job (I work for Department of Conservation), I found I could still do all the physical field work as pretty much normal up until the second half of the 2nd trimester, then had to start slowing down and being more careful. I'm now stuck behind the computer in the office! Last week of work this week though. I was lucky my MS was fairly mild (got the nausea and tiredness but no vomiting), so got through the 1st trimester okay.
Mentally the last month for me has gotten harder, having motivation and concentration issues, so roughly since 30 weeks.
That's me though, and I have to say it, everyone's different! Hopefully you'll be fine for awhile yet!

Depends what you mean. I'm physically less competent now because of bad ms (throwing up type) and have been for several weeks where I don't much want to do anything, but then I was fine up til 34-35 weeks before I started getting uncomfy as with my back. Physically you just have to be careful because hormones make all your ligaments more prone to being pulled or putting things out of place so its easier to hurt yourself
Mentally though, I found I just became a little forgetful but it was from tiredness I think more than anything. I got around that by making myself write everything done.
Don't stress too much about how it will affect you, no matter how it goes you will find a way to cope with whatever nice things your pregnancy does to your body. You may even be a lucky one who gets none of the bad stuff.

I found the first trimester the hardest with feeling sick all the time, but throughout the rest of the pregnancy I was studying full time, and working 2 part time jobs. Other than the first tri, I still continued to get A's throughout the course of my study, I just had to pace myself more instead of pulling long nights etc and be mindful of the other human's needs as well as my own.

The first trimester can be rather challenging, to varying degrees largely based on how sick you feel. For the most part it is just tiring and not too unlike having your period.
The second trimester is usually pretty cruisy and anything's good.
In the third trimester your brain can start to fizzle and the carrying of things is particularly important to watch out for. (I'm mostly talking 10kg+). I work as a Legal Secretary and although I get very tired by the end of each day, I have still been able to do all my mental work ok.

I was incapable of doing much apart from going to work for the 4 weeks I had really bad MS, work was all I could complete in a day, thank god for DH.
2nd tri was good, I was essentially a single Mum cause DH was working in Oz. So I was doing everything he used to do as my stuff.
I mowed lawns up to 37 weeks (my nesting??) I still ran around (poncy dog shows) up til about 32 weeks?
The trick is to still keep on doing what you are doing, don't stop doing something & then try & start it up again later as that is not good. You will naturally slow down because you will tire more easily. Also carrying things may become a little more difficult because of the bump.

Thanks chick! I'm quite excited myself
And thanks for the feedback. Makes me feel better that I'll still be able to do most stuff. And lets be honest, if DH has to carry the 25kg sacks of grain around, thats ok with me! I guess the only thing to do is try it and see now. Yay!

Apparently it's in the first trimester you have to be the most careful about carrying/lifting heavy things. That's when all your ligaments/bones etc. are the most vulnerable cuz they're softening and moving to allow for baby to grow. It's bizarre tho cuz of course that's the trimester you feel most able to do those things. Just mentioning it so's you know
For me, I was teaching 6&7yr olds until 6wks before I was due - that kept me fairly active, though was thoroughly exhausting. Through the first trimester I went home and slept after school, then had to do the same again through my 3rd trimester. My 2nd trimester I still got pretty tired (not helped by a lingering dose of the flu ) but didn't need the sleep so much. By about 30wks I began to feel like I just needed more rest, so the last few weeks of school were quite exhausting. I think mostly cuz that was when my nights started to get really broken. The bladder can only hold so much, and boy can those bubbas move in the middle of the night, lol!!! And I only had a small bump!
All the best - you've got an exciting time ahead of you

I also do really heavy work, I'm still going now (regularly lift 20kg) but am very careful about how I lift. I was told don't get hungry, don't get tired and I really think this has helped me, as soon as I got hungry or tired the MS would set in.
I have found my back to be much more unstable while pg, I think it is the hormones. Anyway I am stopping my heavy work very soon (16wks)
Good luck TTC!!

I could still lift 20kg bags until 2nd tri. I chose not to lift 25+kg, I just dragged them. By mid 2nd tri I could only just lift 10kg, but that's mostly due to breaking a rib (by coughing, not lifting).
My brain turned to mush but I think it was mostly because I was sooooo excited to be pregnant and foundit hard to think about anything else but my wee bubba growing inside me.
Oh, I took a few days off for morning sickness too, but that varies so much between ladies.

That rings as potentially very good advice, thanks!
I'm sure I'll be fine, but DH keeps telling me that when I'm pregnant, I'm going to have to listen to him when he tells me not to do stuff I'm not much of a sit-around girl! So its nice to get your feedback that I don't have to do nothing for 9 months
