Topic: Random smells Posted: 26 October 2008 at 8:18pm |
Hi all, i though i would start this up, dont know if there is already a topic like this.
My main reason was because i have just smelt the most random thing haha.
You know how us preggy woman are sposed to have some amazing sence of smell, well i dont know if its that or what but i just made my self a cup of tea and im HOPING its the cup but it smells like perfume, and its very strong to me, i think its just from being washed about an hour ago but i have asked people to smell it and all they smell is the tea.
To me the perfume smell is more overwhelming and i cant really smell the tea.
Has anyone else had experiences like this??
Ive had quite a few, this is just my most recent.

Yep, know what you mean. I've had a very sensitive nose too.
We could walk down the road at dinner time and I could tell what each house was cooking for dinner lol. Are you picking up on dishwashing liquid residue? It only takes minute amounts. Try washing the dishes, then filling the sink with hot water and rinsing them again. Then dry them. You're probably supersensitive to chemicals. My entire house smelt like toilet cleaner for a whole week a while ago. No one else could smell it.

I have!! Sometimes when I have a cup of tea it smells like perfume!! And I usually always give the cup a quick rinse with the boiled water from the jug, even if it has been in the cupboard.

Oh yay, im not the only one haha.
I usually rinse my cups before i put anything in them but i do it with cold water, might try it with hot water see if that helps.
Yep, im able to walk into the cafe at tech and will be on the other side of the room where you cant see the food yet and will be able to tell straight away what they have cooked for lunch.
My worse case was earlier on in my pregnancy, well for lets say the first 4 and a half months there was some smell in the kitchen and every morning when i walked past it would trigger my morning sickness, it was so bad i couldnt go into the kitchen cos even if i held my nose i could still smell it.
I got so tired of it that we cleaned the whole kitchen and put everything in containers.
The smell has now gone (THANK GOD haha) and i think we have put it down to spices or something like that. It still scares me to walk in there that my natural thing is to hold my nose but then i realise hey i cant smell it anymore.
I got countless of people to walk through the kitchen too and not a single person could smell it. Not even my heavily pregnant friend at the time.
Everyone thought i was crazy haha.

I have very sensitive smell still (with all the other pg'cies I'm sure it was limited to the first trimester?!), to the point that I still can't handle the smell of a lamb roast cooking - and prior to this pg that was my favourite meal!! When I arrive at work in the morning all I can smell is cigarette smoke (there is a smoker in the office who I think has one soon before I arrive) and I find that very strong.

I haven't really got this in a big way, but there is often a burnt coffee smell near where I work, which is AWFUL!

I had the same problem when I was pregnant, although it went away in my last trimester. Going to the movies was the worst because there were so many different smells there. I could tell what flavour tangy fruit the person sitting in front of me was putting into their mouth each time cos it smelled stronger once the saliva hit it. And I had to swap seats twice on a bus trip when I was 18 weeks because first one woman across the aisle from me was wearing perfume that smelled overpowering to me, and then once I shifted I could smell the woman in front of me's AF

Aww I'm jealous, I've never had a sense of smell, and was hoping I'd magically grow one during pregnancy, but no luck so far hehe

Haha its shocked me how strong your nose can become during pregnancy...
Its almost as if you get a similar sence to a dogs nose or something, i still get amazed when i say can you smell that and no one can lolz.
Today i could tell that the cafe was serving curry before i was close enough to see and i could smell KFC in a room of people when someone had had it a few hours earlier.

Yuck! I couldn't wear perfume, use perfumed soaps/shampoos/body washes or use any toothpaste except the mild kids one (Macleans Milk Teeth) when I was preg.
It's 6 years since I was preg with Maya and I still can't use Cold Water Surf or Johnsons Bedtime Bath, and 2 1/2 years since I was preg with the gremlins and I still can't use Sunlight Orange dishwashing detergent. The smell of them still triggers awful nausea!
