Topic: Could it be thrush? Posted: 12 October 2008 at 6:15pm |
Ava has been diagnosed with reflux even though she rarely spits up. She arches her back, refuses the breast sometimes, is gassy, and generally unhappy.
Over the past week or so ive noticed a white coating on her tongue only and her lips are a opaque white colour. The rest of her mouth seems fine. Also ive just recently began to get very sore nipples, shooting pains, and my nipples are red and shiny.
Could we both have thrush - if so maybe that is part of her problem if she is in pain from the thrush? help!

Definitely worth getting it checked. Is her tongue white *before* a feed? Coz they usually have coated tongues after a feed but if it's before it's a good indicator of thrush, as is the red, shiny nipples.
Not sure re: the clicking, I didn't know it was associated with thrush. My lil miss still clicks when feeding on the left hand side, she is fussier over that side and I think the clicking happens coz her latch slips.

I think clicking is when the latch isn't perfect. Or so my midwife told me, but I used nipple shields so could be different,

Yeah that's what I thought too Tishy. Lil miss only does it on the left and I have trouble latching her on that side sometimes.
Thrush could definitely cause irritability too, for her and you!

Sounds like thrush to me too from what I've heard. However, if it's not, we had all the same symptoms here (fussiness, gassiness, clicking while feeding - all started when he was about a month old) and my midwife thought JJ had a mild case of reflux, and it turned out that I just had forceful letdown. A bit of repositioning and just time as he learnt to cope with it fixed it. If you get checked out and they say it's not thrush, feel free to PM me and I can give you more details on the forceful letdown thing.

Sounds like thrush, Caden had thrush in his mouth and I had red shiny sore nipples aswell.
We got some oral cherry falvoured thrush smedicine for caden form the doctor and I put it on my nipples aswell.
