Morning!
Hoping some of you long time users can offer some advice! I have recently started using cloth nappies - a bit of a mixture but mostly pockets that my clever mum made (and are very cute I must say!) I am stuffing these with cloth flats and they are doing the job just fine have had no leaks whatso-ever even overnight etc.

My question is or my problem rather - they get a bit stinky at times! They are always clean and resh smelling after a wash but once DD does a wee they smell rather strongly... I never have this problem with disposables so wondering if this is a normal thing, if theres anything I can do to prevent the odour or has my DD just got stinky pee?? I also have stuffed using bamboo and hemp and they still get the weewee stinky smell... not a major but that is my only peeve about cloth use so far :)

I found that happened when there was washing powder build up and the urine seemed to react with the washing powder and make them smell awful.

Easily fixed with a strip wash:

Hot wash with 1/2 cup of vinegar

Rinse with 1/2 cup of baking soda

Another rinse after that.

Should fix the prob for a while. It did for me anyway

(I started washing on hot at least once every few weeks as a preventative measure as I found that build up was more likely to occur with cold washes. Just my opinion though)

Nikki, is that "normal" vinegar you use or white vinegar? And no washing powder in with that I presume since you're aiming to strip any buildup off the nappies?

I really should strip my nappies as I haven't yet...

Hey ladies thanks for the tips :)

Just wondering would soaking the nppies in napisan make the build-up build up faster and require stripping more often??
