Im quite curious to know how much others babies eat....

My boy is such a hungy little boy, and I wonder if it is really out of the ordinary, or if other have the same. He started on solids at about 4.5 - 5 months and now is eating 3 big meals a day....especially compared to what others seem to be eating at the same age    He will easily eat 5-6 ice cubes of veges and then may even have half a banana after that. He doesn't seem to be a big fan of breast milk anymore, but I am still perservering and trying to make him drink for 5 or so minutes at each side....obviously I cant force him, but I keep "it out" for him while he wriggles and jiggles etc.
I give him a bottle of formula at night (about 10:30pmish) and he will drink 260mls    He isn't chucking any of it up and is still really hungry when he wakes in the morning at about 6 or 7ish.

Im not really worried because he is really happy baby so no need to worry really. Im more curious if this is perhaps a boy thing or if some babies just have a really big appitite.

Oh and he isn't worried about what he is being fed either. He puts a funny face on for the first spoonful for a new food, and is then right into it!

Sounds to me like he just has a really good appetite, it never ceases to amaze me how much they can eat. Spencer will eat the same amount of food in a day as me and he only weighs 9kg
I don't think there is a problem with the amount of food he is having, Spencer always ate a lot (not quite that much at that age but not far off) and didn't turn his nose up at foods, he's also been really good with finger foods and transitioning to lumps, I'm just thankful for it as its a lot less stressful than having a baby that doesn't eat.

I think at 6 months they are suppose to be having 700ml plus of milk so as long as you think he is having that it should be fine and if you are worried about the milk just make sure you always off the boob first and you can always mix some expressed milk into his foods as well or even put some in a sippy cup to offer with solids instead of water.

LOL he is eating more than my wee girl!

He might be really efficient on the boob, but I also wonder if your supply is not what it was?

Reading your post reminded me of a friend whose baby was eating heaps at that age, and her baby was doing rabbit style poos - she suspected her supply was an issue, but plunket just told her to carry on bfing. I'm sure you are fine, but maybe watch his poos to make sure he is getting enough fluid.

Hi JD
On a slight aside, I remember you were having the same sleep problems that we were at the same time. From reading your post, sounds like you have cracked the sleeping

Sounds like he has a great appetite!! Drew is also 6 months and still hasnt really taken to solids.  I pop him in his highchair twice a day for food but most of the time he will only eat a few spoonfuls, and have a bit of a chew on a ruck and a sip or 2 of water.  I am perservering in the hope he will find his appetite soon!!  Doesnt sound out of the ordinary to me, hopefully he will keep enjoying his food!

Sounds like he has a healthy appetite! Chloe is like Drew... she has a sip or two of water, chews some rusks... but she is on 3 meals a day, usually half a jar at breakfast and dinner and a whole little jar at lunch... but the last few days she is on an eating strike (I think she's getting another ear infection)

If he is happy and thriving, and managing to stay regular, then I say he's just being a boy with a healthy appetite!!
Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years).

Thanks for your replys.
Caro07 - He still isn't the best sleeper :o( but maybe thats the downside of having a hungry baby.

He is pretty regular...like he poos at least twice a day...kind of like a dumpling (sorry TMI :-) ) Occasionally it goes a bit pebble like and so I lay off the bananas and try to encourage the water in the sippy cup. it doesnt' seem to bother him at all.

I guess he is just a big eater. I hate to think of our food bill when he is a teenager...especially if he carries on like this!!!
