Topic: When to take pregnancy test? Posted: 17 August 2008 at 11:19am |
Hi, I am very new here and wondering if you can advise when to take a pregnancy test to get optimum results?
My first cycle off the pill was 44 days - it takes me a bit of time to settle down to a regular cycle, am into day 32 of second cycle, presume I need to wait until at least the 44th day before I can satisfy my curiosity :-)?
Sorry I need to learn all the codes for the forums off by heart, it is another language on here with AFO, DPO, etc, OMG!

Are you temping at all, or any idea when/if you ovulated? If you do, then 14 days after that could be a plan, otherwise yeah, I'd wait until day 44.

welcome rillamyrilla!
I would wait until day 44 as well, cos then if you have returned to a 'normal' cycle you'll at least be a few weeks preg if you get a postive HPT (home pregnancy test!)
The codes are a bit like another language aren't they, I had no idea until someone posted the link to codes 101 - search for it in the forum search - its really handy! I had no idea how many different ones there are until I read it!

I agree with Kate. If you know when you Ov'ed (ovulated) then 14 days after that, aka DPO (Days past ovulation). Otherwise I'd wait until CD 44.
Good luck

Lol, Kelly. I was thinking the same thing! Although by recognising that, it identifies us as the same!
Rillamyrilla, you may not necessarily have to wait that long. Potentially your cycles could get shorter until they are back to a 'normal' length for you. So if you wanted to test, you could! You might get a BFP (positive), but if you get a BFN (negative), you need to be aware that it may be too early, rather than an actual negative. So it depends what you think you'll deal with better. If you can hold out its probably better for your sanity... but if it was me, I'd probably have caved!
Best of luck!

I think in that situation I'd try and figure out when you ovulate, and test. 10-14 days after that.
Where are you in this cycle?

Thanks for all your responses. I have been using the ovulation sticks but not had much luck and have given up - working back from my last period 14 days I took a test that day and no luck. So I figure I'll bide my time while my cycle sorts itself out, but was just curious about when you can test. Hopefully my doolally system will sort itself out. I could try temping and stuff, but trying to keep it all in perspective in these early days and not get too hung up, will get more hard core as the months progress I spose!
YEs to answer the question I am an AOGG fan, would love to name a daughter Rilla except for the fact they would get 'Rilla the Gorilla' at school!
