Hi there, i was wondering what others did with their babies with regard to feeding. What do you do when your baby has a feed at say 12 and then sleep at 1 for an hour and then is awake again at 2 (which means there is only two hours between feeds), do you feed them as soon as they get up again or do you wait and see if they want a feed before they go to bed again in an hours time? or put them back to bed without feeding so they go longer between feeds? (hope this makes sense!!)

Im still trying to work all this out aswell lol, but basically, if caden has a feed then goes to sleep and wakes again in an hours time I will feed him if he seems hungry, if he is quite happy to sit in his bouncer then I'll leave him till he starts showing his hungry signs(sucking his fingers or anypart of me he can reach lol, or screaming his lungs out).

Makes perfect sense! I found it easier to keep in the feed, play sleep routine, so I just fed 2hrly if she only had an hours sleep. I figured that the more she ate during the day the more likely she was to sleep thru the night....

I've fed all of mine three hourly during the day then on demand at night and DJ's theory is right, the more they feed during the night, the less frequently they'll feed during the night. If they woke before a feed was due I'd just put them in the bouncer or on the floor for playtime until the next feed was due. I'd only feed them early if they seemed really hungry, otherwise there's a risk they'll snack feed and not get enough of the hind milk and it becomes a vicious cycle.
Am still demand feeding Chiara, pretty much 3-hourly and hoping to get her into some semblance of routine in the next couple of weeks coz atm it's a bit all over the place.

I think every baby is sooo different and just when you think you have some sort of routine, they go and change everything on you! I feed around every 2-3hours or when Zechariah shows hungry signs (like cadensmum said). So just do what you feel is right and becareful not to mix the hungry signs with the 'I am uncomfortable and have heaps of wind' signs , I sometimes make this mistake.
Life would be so much easier if babies could talk

I demand feed, if DD is hungry then she gets fed whether that be 1 or 4 hours since her last feed. Come nights (5-8.30) she cluster feed, feeding nearly every half an hour but then she normally sleeps through till 5am ish. This works well for us but some people prefer more of a routine with feeds, so whatever works for you and bubs.
But I do agree with the viscous cycle of not getting enough hind milk. DS1 was like that I simply couldn't break it, he would feed max of every hour and a half during the day and by 5 months (I put him on bottle then as was returning to work) he was still waking 2 - 3 times a night . After a weeks of being on a bottle and I could monitor his intake he was a much more content baby and nights started to improve somewhat.

That is exactly what has happened here. Harry got into a routine of snack feeding 2 hourly and now at 6 and a half months we are just trying to break the habit.
My milk supply has dropped off as hehas been snacking and now I am struggling to feed him and have just introduced one formula feed a day. He has been waking 2 to 3 (sometimes 4 ) times a night since 4 months, it is so exhausting!
There is a fair bit of other background stuff that I won't spend ages boring you with that led to the snacking, so in hindsight if you think you could push it out to 3 hourly, maybe thats the way to go??
But like someone said every baby and situation is different and if it is working for you then why change a good thing?!
All the best
