hello

Firstly, i just want to say i am a regular on this forum but i have used an assumed user name as i know that a colleague in the office lurks on this board.

I had been intending to take parental leave and return to work afterwards part time. However, i am becoming increasingly disillusioned with my job and would like to look for something else to return to when i am ready to go back to work.

If i do not return back to my original job at the end of parental leave do i have to pay back the payments from Inland Revenue?

thanking you all! (feeling really fed up today!)

Love the alias!

No, you wont have to pay back IRD if you don't return to the same job. As long as you tell your work before you go on mat leave that you fully intend to return after x months you will be fine. Lots of people do that.
I managed a couple of women in my last job where they said they were going to return after mat leave and then called me after a few months and said that they were resigning. I fully expected it and I think it happens all the time.

Hi there
In short - no you do not have to pay back the IRD payments - as long as you are still employed by the same company while receiving the payments.

If you cease employment while on leave - your payments stop and you are considered to have left employment at the start of your leave but any payments already made are not required to be returned.

Parental Leave

Not going back to work
If you decide that you will not be returning to work when your parental leave ends, you must write to your employer and tell them this at least 21 days before your leave ends.

If you decide not to return to work during the period you are receiving the parental leave payment, your payment ceases when your employment ceases.

If you do not go back to work at the end of your parental leave, your employment will be considered to have ended on the day you started the leave, but you are not required to repay the parental leave payment.

Hope this helps.
And I hope things are bearable for the remainder of your time there.

Yes thats what happened to me...fully did intend on returning part time but with Blake and his reflux it just wasnt an option so I gave them the intended notice.
Was no changes or pay back of any monies!

All you have to say is that you have the intention of going back so you can get the leave. Both time I have gottn ehte leave I have said I had the intention of going back (even thou I knew I never would go back) and still go the payments and never had to pay a cent back.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
