Topic: Cost of fert drugs? Posted: 19 May 2008 at 11:12pm |
I'm planning well in advance for #2 (unless we accidentally get pg, will be trying in Oct).
For those who don't know, I never had cycles and then bam had 2 periods then got pg while waiting to go on clomid (was supposed to start the day after I got my BFP!)
Anyway, to my question. If I don't get another period before we want to TTC I'm going to go back to my specialist, but just wondering how much provera and clomid cost each round? I want to start saving now just in case. Thanks!

Hey there Emz,
Clomid costs $15 for the 3 months worth (or whatever your Spec's written on the prescription, repeats are free).
I get Provera also, I'm pretty sure it's the same price as Clomid, maybe $16? Definately wouldn't be more (again, the repeats are free if he gives you a few months worth).
Good luck!

we did 3 clomiphene treatments privatly (so we could still have IVF if needed) and it cost us $200 for a monitered cycle.

Monitored cycles include bloods, scans etc?
I only have the provera, clomid and day 21 bloods and all I have to pay for is the cost of the meds, and if I go to see my gynae then that appointment too but usually I just ring up and they do a presciption for me.

Thanks! I didn't think it would be that cheap (even the $200 monitored cycle isn't too bad). Now I just have to start saving just in case. I have no cycle at the moment (not b/f and have only had one AF since Jack was born) so am starting to worry that my body has gone back to its normal hell.

I got Provera from my GP and it was only $3 from him.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think GP's can prescribe Provera Emz, but Clomiphene has to go through your spec.
I have been offered Provera by a GP before, but at that time I wasn't interested in taking it
Oh, also the reason it was $3 was probably cos a Community Services Card was used???
I don't qualify so can't get cheaper pills
Don't know if it'd be cheaper for the Clomiphene though...
