Hi Ladies,

Can HPT's give you a false positive? The chemist told me today that lots of things can cause the test to turn positive even if you are not preggers? I had heard this before but wasn't sure. One of my tests has a faint but clear line and the other has a line that is there but is difficult to see.

Really, what did the chemist say could cause a false positive? I didnt think they were that easy to come by. However it is possible to have a chemical pregnancy where your egg gets fertilised but doesnt implant and therefore it ends before its really started so you get your period. Normally you would be non the wiser but if you just happened to test at just the right time you could get a BFP

Hmmm not that I know much about all this but was in a conversation some time ago with a Pharmacist talking about HPT'S etc....... basically said that FPT would be hard as once body starts to produce hormones ie from moment of conception this is what makes the tests turn...HOWEVER false negatives can be common because testing too soon.....

Its more likely to be a dud Pregnancy test I imagine!

Basically a line is a line no matter how faint it is....

Well, I have one with a light but very clear line, one where it could be my imagination with the line and one where Rob and I are pretty sure has a line. They are so faint but it's the bleeding that is worrying me. I bleed for 36 hours and now it's stopped.

Have a doc app in 2 hours. Hopefully she can tell me something. I'm really hoping it's positive. I've tried not to get my hopes up but I can't help it. Silly me even started thinking about baby names before I slapped myself and told myself I was being stupid and winding myself up.

The not nice part is the nausea. I have 2 German Shepherds which I just adore and the smell of them is making me gag. Weird as I could never smell them before, now it's just over EVERYTHING. Even their smell on my clothes is making me feel ill. Poor babies, they keep coming for cuddles and I'm struggling.

sounds like implantation bleeding to me too.....maybe you could a a false positive on one test, but i'd imagine it would be rather impossible for more than one false positive!!!

hope you got some great news at the dr's today

Could be implantation bleeding, I had light bleeding (almost spotting) for 2 days and, well, the results of tomorrow's tests will see if it was implantation bleeding for me or not!

same here - I had a 2 day AF which was very weird, I tested a couple of days later and got a BFP! Hope the same is for you.

As for the false positives - I've always been told that you can't get a false positive (unless the test itself is faulty), but if you've done 3 and all say BFP then I reckon you're pregnant

Is the line pink or blue? I have seen evaporation lines on some pregnancy tests but they tend to be grey rather than coloured. If it's coloured then I'd say you are pregnant.
