Hey ladies,

I was wondering if any of you have gone through this? I just got a call from my midwife to inform me the my ferritin and haemaglobins are worringly low, despite taking Ferrograd-Folic, Floradix AND folic acid (hoping that it would aid in the absorption of iron... Well clearly not, in my case)

My haemaglobins started at 134, so brilliant... They've now dropped to 91, not so brilliant. And my ferritin is reading 4.1 - So yeah, I'm pretty damn anemic now, which the midwife's not happy about.

Anyways, she's putting me in hospital overnight for this thing she called an 'infusion' and basically I'll be put on a drip and it'l' bring my levels back up and hopefully restore some of the stores so that I'm not having to have such a controlled labour and birth (incase of haemmoraging etc)

I was just curious as to whether any of you out there have gone through this procedure, and if so, whether you found it really beneficial?

Apparently it's not a procedure that's used very often, but has been done enough times to know that it can be effective.

Baby's doing wonderfully, Midwife's really happy with her progress, but the little moo-cow is completely zapping me of everything! Lol
Any thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated - thanks!

Kinda annoying that I'm having to go into hospital so close to d-day knowing that I won't be coming home with a baby

Oh poo Serenity.
Perhaps you should rip the iV out and make it look like it's still in there...

"Nope. Not working. Let's get this baby out!"
heheheh

Sorry you're having to go to hospital hun. I'm sure you'll feel a million times better once they've done it.
Just think of the haemorrage risk.
My ferritin went from 5 at 24 weeks to 16 at 38 weeks, and I feel HEAPS better.

*hugs*

By any chance would it be a transfusion your midwife is talking about? I have never had one whilst pregnant, but had one in hospital when I haemorrhaged after the birth of my daughter. I think my haemoglobin count was down to 60 something, and I felt like death. The transfusion definitely helped, they gave me three units of blood in total.

Hopefully your midwife will be able to help you get this issue sorted, and soon!

Best wishes Serenity! My ferritin went down despite taking iron tablets as well but my haemoglobin stayed fine, so that must be the real kicker...

I hope that it makes u feel heaps better!
