Topic: Worried - falls while pregnant Posted: 26 December 2007 at 7:22pm |
I'm a bit worried and looking for reassurance. But also an embarrassing story. Today we went out ten pin bowling and I went looking for a lighter ball in another unused lane. I turned to walk back to our lane and didn't realise the end of the ball return thing tapered down to the ground (like a ramp) and tripped over the end. I had a bowling ball in my hands and slippery bowling shoes on the wood and the trip was so unexpected that I fell straight forwards, landing on my front. I sprained a couple of fingers as the ball spun off (luckily didn't hit anyone else!) and grazed my chin and knee, but that seems to be the worst of it. I think I took most of the fall on my chest (ouch) and knees, but am wondering how the baby will be. I have no cramping or bleeding and I have felt it kick and move since then, and my tummy isn't that big yet, so I am pretty sure everything is ok. But can't help worrying. I will give my midwife a call tomorrow, but wondered if anyone knew about falls in pregnancy? I vaguely remember something about how the baby is well cushioned in there and I don't think the fall was much worse than DD has jumped on my tummy every now and then (little monster). Blugh. Was so embarrassed and now sore, any advice or things to watch for would be appreciated!

I think they are fine as long as you keep feeling movement and you dont have any cramping or bleeding, like you said. Apparently they are very well cushioned and I know lots of people on here have had falls and been fine. Probably best to ring your mw tomorrow just for your own piece of mind. Hope the rest of you is feeling ok, including your pride!

You should be ok, my mum slipped down the stairs when she was pregnant with one of my brothers and he is fine. If you are really worried then ring your midwife, but Id say seems as your not bleeding and you have no cramping or pain then your ok, sounds like your knees and hands took the weight of the fall.

Thanks guys, I am going to have a bath and try to relax. Nice to hear the reassurance. I have to call the mw tomorrow anyway to get a script for some thrush stuff ( ) so will mention it to her.

Heh heh! I was sooooo embarrassed once I got over the shock of finding myself face down on the floor. Happened right in front of a big family group bowling, they rushed to help but I was more concentrated on getting out of there so didn't take stock of the injuries until I had sat down with DH again.

With my last pregnancy I tripped over the cat & landed dead flat straight on my tummy! Had horrible cramping & thought the worst.... Mw checked me out & gave me a kick chart to do, told me to head straight to hospital if I had any bleeding etc but told me that Bubs is very well protected in there. He is now 19 months old

Ouch, that sounds rather painful!!!
I was almost 38 weeks so showing quite significantly and I was taking out the rubbish and I fell down the stairs, first landing on my knee on the edge of the concrete (OUCH)and then falling to my belly quite hard..
I was terrified something was wrong, so I rang my midwife to let her know just in case bubs decided she didn't like that very much..there was no movements for a good hour afterwards and I was getting anxious until..... a HUGE kick.. OMG I definitely sighed with relief at that feeling!!! 2 and a half weeks later Keziah Leiandra arrived perfectly healthy and happy :)
Remember bubs is surrounded by a sack of water to protect him/her so it'd take a fair 'thwack' to cause any immediate problems
Take care hun
