Topic: Friends Wedding... Posted: 18 November 2007 at 7:32pm |
DH has his best friends wedding this coming weekend, and he is one of the groomsmen... anyway, bubs is due to come out within the next week, might be early or late! The question is... do I go?? and to the reception? His mate has asked me if I am going to go to the reception, but who can say at this stage, as he can "replace" me with someone else, they are all money worry people, I feel stressed out, hope that DH can make the wedding, does it really matter if I don't go??!

If you haven't had the baby then going out might be a nice distraction, but theres nothing to say bubs won't be here by next weekend.
As it is your DHs friends wedding it probably wouldn't matter that much if you didn't go.

I would tell them you are going, but they can't get all sh!tty at you if bub's decided to turn up on the day.

They are also friends of mine, but know that I am due soon and find it really uncomfortable moving around.

Maybe say that you will go to the ceremony but give the reception a miss, I'm sure they will understand and your DH can always stay on for the reception.

I'm the wrong person to ask - both DH and myself are supposed to be in the wedding party for my SIL's wedding which is on our due date!!!!
But I would say that you are going but for them to understand that things don't often go to plan!!

Go if you want to. If you have to pull out at the last minute then probably your DH will too, obviously he'll do everything he can to be there for as much as you can but if you go into labour, there's not much he can do about it is there?

for me it would depend how far away the wedding is from where you are planning on giving birth.
about 17 years ago my step mum was advised not to go to her brothers wedding...(about a 2 hour drive away) was a good thing she didnt as she gave birth around the same time her brother was getting married.

Surely they thought about this before asking your DH to be a groomsman? Cos he's (hopefully) going to want to be at the birth of his child over his friend's wedding!
I would go, the percentage of babies actually born on, or even 1 or 2 days either side of their due date isn't incredibly high, so just play it by ear.

Emz I guess it would depend when they asked him to be a groomsman.
and in saying that I would expect my husband to be at the birth of his own child over being a groomsman at his bestfriend's wedding.
Lisha if they are true friends they will understand after all babies dont stick to a timetable.

We had 3 ppl who had RSVP not turn up and I didn't really care on the day - I thought I would but even now I don't mind. We had a great day.
So I think they'd understand at the end of the day - you have a very reason if you don't turn up. My 3 didn't even bother coming up with an excuse

Awww, the wedding is about 5 mins away from the hospital in the car, with hazard lights on, ha ha. Yep, thinking of going to the wedding, would be a shame to miss it.
Adam was only asked about 1 month ago to be one of the groomsmen, crazy aye, as his friend is not having a "best man" just 3 groomsmen, and he was Adams!
And so therefore he has known for months that we are pregnant. In fact, the grooms brother and his wife are due on the same day as us. It just seems crazy that the groom has to know if I am coming to the reception, it's a very unknown question... and in the end, would it really matter??!! probabaly not !

I would (IMHO) say that you were going to the ceremony and then the dance bit later, that way you can head home, have sleep or eat when you want and then head back if you can be bothered. Its always dumb sitting at the reception by yourself when your DH is part of the party!

I know... at this stage, I am going to the wedding, but not the reception... but as I always keep saying, who knows what is going to happen this week!

Or you could say that you intend on being at both, that way if you do want to stay on and enjoy the reception on the day you can, and if it's all a bit much, you can just head off - it shouldn't really matter to the bride and groom either way, considering you've got a good reason to be tired and maybe not in the mood for a party! And don't worry about them thinking of 'replacing' you on the guest list or not - they've left it a bit late to invite someone new in your place anyway, and every wedding seems to have a couple of no-shows and a gate-crasher to make up for them. Ours did - and we didn't care one bit.

I agree, you should say you're going to all of it and then see what happens. They should understand, and really, the things people get most worked up about before the wedding often end up being the least important things to them on the day. We also had a no show at our wedding and a couple who decided to leave halfway through to go to the pub down the road and watch the rugby, then come back afterwards for the free drinks. At the time we didn't give a hoot, they missed the meal, their loss. At least you have a good reason!

I had a guest at my wedding who was 39 weeks pregnant. She spent all night on the dance floor trying to get bubs to hurry up! She even had a pact going with one of the groomsmen where if her waters broke, he was to immediately drop his drink and pretend the puddle was from that
(her baby arrived three days after the wedding)

Haha, thanks for that, but if you have seen how big I am, there is no way that I can drive or let alone be out dancing, as I am huge! Have been having loads of period pains so something is happening down there
