Topic: Hurting hands Posted: 26 September 2007 at 5:45pm |
I work in a preschool(for three more days) and today i couldn't stand the cuts and dry skin anymore and finally gave in and used a moisturiser(i know i know i should have before) as i have about 10 little cuts on my hands
I'm already paranoid abut getting germs into the cuts..but bubs is fine so far and I wash my hands a lot so assume everything ok..and i know most things don't get to bubs.. anyway my question is my husband found me some vaseline intensive care aloe vera replenishing moisturiser...and I read somewhere aloe vera is bad during pregnancy? is this true..esp as it obviously will get into my cuts? any adivce, thoughts, experience?

Do you use bio oil? I would recommend bio oil for anything to help heal and rejuvenate your skin!
I have used it my whole pregnancy, twice a day and it is safe in pregnancy! I recommended it to my Mum for her ageing skin. She started using it on Monday and absolutely loves it. She said her skin has never felt so good as it does after using the bio oil!
Can you tell I LOVE this stuff!!

I don't know why aloe vera would be bad?
You haven't eaten the aloe vera anyhow, so it's not being ingested - therefore, won't be going to bub

yeah that is my theory:) but i don't know how these things work..i just looked it up and it seems to be the ingestion is the problem..I'm always paranoid just because of the amount of germs I'm exposed to but i wash my hands a lot so that gets rid of most hopefully:)

I didn't know Aloe was bad either. To be honest I had never even thought about things like moisturizers - I use those a lot as I have very dry skin. Maybe have a chat to your midwife and see what she'll say.

yeah i will..i go next Wednesday though she told me to use alcohol based wipes..so im assuming any moisturiser will be ok..i never used to look at the labels..lol..i assume most cream is fine! your baby is obviously fine so they must be ok... I've got such a long list for her this time and I have to book into hospital at the next visit!

kawwww, I've been using Aveeno Intense Relief hand cream & it's been great. It's not greasy at all & lasts on your hands for ages. I too have been getting quite dry & itchy hands & this stuff has been great.
It's seems pretty natural (i.e. no fragrance etc) so I'm sure it's fine in pregnancy. I didn't even contemplate that it might not be

I use that Aveeno stuff too - It is awesome.
I get really bad eczema on my hands and after using all my prescription creams, I fin that my hands are dried out quite badly and are prone to cracks and little cuts too (soudns nasty, I know)
But the other thing I use which is an absolute GODSEND! is BodyShop's hemp handcream. It's so nice to use! And hemp has really good healing properties.

Just to clarify bio oil shouldn't be used on broken skin, so probably won't help you in this case kawwww!

I woulnt have thought that there would be a problem with the aloe vera cream ... but I wouldnt go without the Bod for Bubs products, Mothers Milk is the everyday moisturizer great for helping to heal up scrapes and bumnps etc, and Bubaloos Miracle Dry Skin Balm is excellent for excma (how do you spell that?). They are designed for babies skin, but I use them myself also as I have a very sensitive skin.

Coming in late sorry but as an eczma sufferer I have used Aveeno and Hope's relief and I can tell you that while Aveeno works short term I found Hope's relief actually got to the root of the problem to the point where I could stop using it for weeks and my eczma wouldn't flare up. So I'm guessing that it would probably work very well on someone who doesn't have eczma.
I would recommend Hope's Relief if you can find it where you are.
I don't think Aloe would be bad for you though.
Also I carry a little bottle of hand sanitiser to the bathroom at work and use that rather than washing my hands as the soap at our work is very drying.
