Topic: Scans Posted: 24 September 2007 at 4:29pm |
Hey everyone, I'm 35wks and I wa just wondering how many scans on average your ment to have within this amount of time as I have only had one and that was at 19wks. I've asked my midwife and she said there is no need for anymore unless she becomes worried about my lil ones growth or positioning.
Any Help Please

Except for the problem one LOL, I only had one scan each pregnancy - at 20-21 weeks. A lot of lucky Aucklanders get heaps, but in Palmy, it's more budgetted for some reason.

Totally depends on how things are going.
With my first I was having scan every second day from 37 weeks (till 39 when I had him) as I had pre eclampsia). I also had 2 antomy scans as he had a funny looking heart (ended up being fine) and I had to have a dating scan (as there is a family history of twins). My second I had a dating scan at 8 weeks (had no idea how far along I was), 2 antomy scans as Josh didn't want to show his back to the person doing the scan. then once I hit 37 weeks I was getting scanned every 3-4 days as I had pre eclapmsia again.

#1 I had 2 (one at 12 weeks UK , and one at 22 weeks here)
#2 I had 2 (one at 16 weeks - they thought she had died and one at 20 weeks)
#3 I had 6 (one at 20 weeks, one at 29 weeks - we paid for this one ourselves as wanted a 3d scan, then 35 weeks - growth scan, 37 weeks when they tried to turn him -breeched, 38 weeks when we went to book in for ceasar checking if still breeched and final one 39 weeks on the day to see what postion he was in) phew....
But if there was nothing wrong I think they only do the 20 week scan and some get dating scans. (oh and some get 12week scan but not here in the naki)

Usually just the one at 18-20 weeks unless you are older (35 years or older) in which case you can have one to measure the nuchal thickness at about 11 weeks and may have another about the time bubs is due to check the condition of the placenta.

You do usually have a few lots of bloods done, my iron is pretty low and I now have to have iron jabs.
You should have some swabs soon for strep B.

I had 4 with Maya at 8 weeks (to check my kidneys), 12 weeks (nuchal scan), 19 week anatomy and then a growth/presentation scan at 36 weeks coz the midwife felt she was big for dates and presenting awkwardly.
I had 17 full scans with the gremlins plus a scan at every OB appt but that's coz there were two of them, they only had one placenta, and they monkeyed around getting everyone worried ever couple of weeks.

I had one at six weeks because of cramps (unexplained), the nuchal fold at 12 weeks (but midwife said we didn't have to - we wanted to see our bubba!), 20 week anatomy scan and then one at 38 weeks before the induction to check things were ok.
This time around we haven't had any yet, but will probably only have the 20 week scan unless DH wants the 12 week one as well (he gets clucky and how can I deny him seeing his bubba!). Hoping there'll be no need for a pre-induction scan!

I had 3 scans with Kahtrell. #1 @ 12 weeks for a dating scan, #2 @ 19 weeks - anatomy scan (oh and told i was having a girl!) and #3 @ 38 weeks- growth scan so see how big he was, as i had borderline gestational diabetes and they wanted to check his size(all was fine though, he was just a big baby genetically) and that was when i found out baby could actually be a boy! and then I was induced a week later.

I had 2 scheduled scans (nuchal fold scan at 12 wks and anatomy scan at 20wks) then I had another scan at 39wks as the MW thought she had misdiagnosed breech position (she hadn't Caitlin just had a big head that was mistaken for a bum )
I was always told that 2 scans was the norm

I had 7 scans - a dating scan at 9 weeks, nuchal translucency scan at 12 weeks, anatomy scan at 19 weeks, and then as part of a study I took part in I had another scan at 21 weeks, one at 28 weeks, one at 35 weeks and then one two days before he was born as I was overdue and they needed to check fluid levels (which were very low and led to me being induced that day).
