Hey!

Big Latch On is coming up and we are getting there with venues now registered all over the country... we still need more though! OhBaby ran an event in Auckland last year - hopefully they'll be able to do it again

You can check out the Big Latch On map to see if there's a Big Latch On event happening near you (zoom in to your area), or you can contact us at breastfeeding@womens-health.org.nz if you'd like to run your own event (there's prizes in it for you!) and need some ideas or help.

See www.biglatchon.org.nz for more information. Or join our Big Latch On facebook page for the latest updates!

Have you thought of asking Luscious Cafe in Te Atatu to host the Waitakere one?

Venues are registered by anyone who is interested in hosting an event.

There are two currently registered in Waitakere, one is the Slingbabies event which has a venue but Rebecca from the West Auckland parents' centre hasn't yet confirmed... I'll pass the suggestion of Luscious on to her Thanks!

quick question about 'eligibility' for big latch on... I can only get mine latched with the help of a nipple shield and supplementary nursing system, would that still be ok, or does that rule me out? I went when DD was 2.5 months old, she stopped feeding 2 weeks later, and at the rate we are going now I'll be lucky to make it to the big day, but would love to put my hand up along with everyone else one last time.

Good question Babykatnz.

I was so looking forward to being able to attend this year for the first (and last) time but am also using nipple shields - i hope this doesn't count me out? I am hopefully weaning off them but time will tell.

nipple shields shouldnt rule you out at all! they are just an aid to help you breastfeed.

I used nipple shields last time and it didnt seem to matter, I'm more worried about the SNS, who could I email to find out what the deal is for that?

I wouldn't have thought it matters BK, any form of BF should be acceptable.

I wonder if you'll get counted as one or two if you are breastfeeding two at the same time?

No it's women feeding not number of babies/children feeding sorry to say (well it was the last few years anyway, which was a shame as we have lots of twins mums last year :)

If you're latched you count! We'd love to have you along to a local venue

Just a quick post to say that the Auckland Young Parents Breastfeeding Group are hosting a venue at the Organic Africa Cafe, 373 Parnell Road, Parnell, Auckland. I'll be there to count the mums latched on and bring you hot drinks, wrangle children etc.

Open to mums of all ages - would love to see you there at 10am (ready for the record attempt at 10.30am) - Women's Health Action shouting coffees/hot chocs.

OhBaby! is also hosting a venue at the Parenting Place, 300 Great South Road, Greenlane.

You can check out the nearest venue to you if you'd like to come along on Friday morning.
