Topic: Toilet training has begun... Posted: 11 December 2004 at 10:56am |
I have started TT Maya this week. Wanted to wait a few more weeks, but she insisted on wearing "ayees" (undies lol), so we started. She is happy to sit on the toilet and swing her legs and say "wee wees" but doesn't actually go very ofter. We're using the Pull Ups when we go out, and undies at home. LOL - she loves the ayee's so much that she wears them over her nappy to bed!
Will let you guys know how we get on.

I want Paris to be starting to be tt at least by the time the newbie arrives.. but well.. she's gotta be walking first! she's really good right now though.. already she will stop and say "poos" before she does it.. so hopefully thats a step in the right direction. let us know how you go.. with summer coming up it should be easier - apparently less chance of them wetting at night when they get cold or something? plus.. you can at least get the washing dry if she does. lol. YAY Maya!

We had Angie tt during the day for about a month before Andrew would let me try her at night. She had a few dry nappies in the morning though and she has probly only wet the bed 4/5 times since she has been toilet trained - prob bout 10 months now.
Best buy for when you start tt at night is a plastic backed blanket thing. We got ours from baby factory and we still keep it on the bed just in case. We would also put two bottom sheets on her bed with the plastic sheet in between so that if their was an accident at 3am it's easy to just pull off one sheet and baby is ready to get back to sleep.
Apparently it is not good to tt within 2 months either side of a new baby coming along. Not quite sure why but I guess it is because their is more chance of regressing with wanting more attention etc.
Angie was talking about wearing knickers at about Maya's age but she wasn't quite ready to be tt. We were quite bad though as we would have a morning and have a few pairs of wet knickers and so give up. Just before she was 2 I decided that it was time and after that initial morning of wet knickers she was great. We would ask her if she needed to go toilet a million times a day but wouldn't put her on unless she said yes.
Now she is big enough to go all by herself!!! No more baby seat and she is tall enough to hop on by herself. She wasn't into using a stool for some reason!

From memory I thing Angie's birthday is around Maya's (28 Feb), so she would have been the same age as Maya this time last year. I think with summer, and it being warm, it's a good time to start, although we are out and about a lot more atm which makes it a bit tricky - I get about 30 secs warning before "weewees" LOL!

mm, i agree with you melz.. that is one of our worries about trying to get Paris toilet trained by then..I have heard most children regress at least al ittle when #2 arrives.. also because around that time she will also be moving to the over-two's part of the daycare.. we are scared it may be far too much change for her all at once. I think we will just follow her lead.. she's pretty onto it, I'm sure she'll let us know when she is ready.

All kids are so different though. I know boys tend to be later to tt than girls but at playcentre we have some girls who are 3 and still not fully tt'ed. One of the girls in particular is super bright just different times of developing I guess

Nothing wrong with giving it a try. Just buy some knickers and a potty/inner toilet seat (which we prefered as there was no cleaning it out everytime) and see what happens. At least it is summer at the moment (kinda) so you can put him in knickers and don't have to worry about him being cold. If he isn't into then try again in a few months.
Another tip for those with girls, boys undies fit a lot better than girls ones. Angie is quite tall for her age but the size 2/3 knickers were all really baggie round the bum and didn't fit very well. Boys ones work a treat!

thanx melz.
haha better not tell her she wore boys undies when she was younger!! Then again that would make a great 21st story if u wanted to majorly embarras her lol.
we might go out and buy a nice potty for Xander so we can at least give it a go and see wot happens.

Thanks for the tip Mel. Maya is in the size 2-3 girls, and they just about fall down on her skinny bum!
We have an inner toilet seat too, thought the whole potty thing is a bit gross, but Maya won't use the toilet seat - she tells me she is "big" and can sit on the big seat LOL!

I brough some size 1-2 knickers for Sophie and they don't seen to be too bad. She like wearing them. I often put a folded half nappy in it when I don't want to have to be cleaning up little accidents

Maya likes her 'ayees' so much that we have to put them on over her nappies when she goes to bed!

Lots of puddles, but she is gradually getting the message. It's quite hard atm as we are out a lot, so she is wearing Pull Up's when we go out, and she tends to just wee in them. At home she tells me sometimes that she needs to go, but I pretty much get about 10 seconds notice. Still, we're getting there.

Just an update, we kind of let things slide over xmas, with being out and about a lot, and all the stress etc. But we have started again seriously today. Maya and I had a discussion at breakfast about her wearing undies, and going wees in the toilet, and she is really excited, keeps clapping her hands, and she kept saying "Maya wear undies to daycare". So she has been on and off the toilet all morning, Potty Elmo goes with her too, and now she is at daycare. I hope she is going okay, but she did proudly announce when she arrived "Maya wear undies go weewee in toilet" so I figure she's got the right idea!

how did you start it all?
we have noticed paris tells us before she goes #2, and is starting to say wee-wees as well, so we went and got a cute pink seat for the toilet today. thought i might as well give it a try and see how we go - just even maybe getting her used to the idea might be a start.
went to a family gathering a week or so ago and one of my sister's friends was there with her little girl, who is only 2 months older than Paris. she is fully toilet-trained during the day, and has been since 16 months - still in naps at night right now though. I know every child (and parent) is different, but that did help me make the decision that maybe we should give it a try.
any tips and pointers anyone can give would be great.
