Chicken pox

I've always heard it's much better to catch it young - In fact I've heard it can cause infertility if caught after puberty! (I'm not sure that's true though)

I'm not sure how I'd react if someone offered to share the love, so to speak...

I think its a great idea, some people just don't understand how natural immunity works though

nope wouldn't do it, Planning to get DS2 immunised against it as DS1 had it a few months ago and has REALLY bad scaring from them on his face that i have been told will fade. But everyone looks at him like he still has the pox!
It annnoys me because he didn't scratch them and i didn't use that awful pink lotion.

I've heard of people doing that, and although I agree its better to get it young (Jakes had it, the joys of daycare) ... it certainly isn't much fun looking after sick toddlers or babies, so I don't think I'd infect my kids on purpose. I'd rather they got things like that at school age when they understand a bit more about not scrathing etc. Also some people may not have any sick leave left to look after sick kids. Or don't have the energy to be up int he night with a toddler if they're already up feeding a newborn (Morgan was 2 weeks when Jake got them). So I don't thinks its completely weird, but I wouldn't do it. (would be happy for people to come over and catch it off my kids if they wanted to though).

I think that they get it easier the younger they are, my DS has just had them too, I offered people a kiss from DS for $10, (So put me in the 'Weird! catorgory too!!), My sis has brought my 1 yr old niece over to play lots and quite a few other kids have come to play too, so maybe we're not completely alone!!! Although, I havent managed to pay off the mortgage yet from the $10 kiss's!!

I must say though, I dont like my kids being sick, poor wee things, but Chicken pox is something that I am SO keen for them to get early just because it is incredbly dangerous if gotten once they are a adult, and it is a oncer...

By the way Odette, did you find anything that helped with the itching? Someone suggested adding baking soda to the bath, dont know if it helped though, but I think the bath did!!

You can get it more than once, if the first time you get it is only a mild case. I had it 3 times, the last time was a right doozy when I was 11 years old.

One of our friends told us on Monday that chicken pox is going around her son's daycare - her son was here all Saturday night, so who knows what will happen, I guess we have to wait and see. It doesn't bother me so much if the girls get it, because then it's out of the way (though I have no idea how I would deal with 2 sick and sore little girls by myself), HOWEVER DH has never had them, and I imagine he would be struck down pretty badly at 30 years old. That's the one thing putting me off.

Ethan caught it about a month ago and 12 days after hist first spot came ot the girs came down with it. Despite them being really grumpy I think the younger they are the better it is. At 7 weeks they were too small to scratch! I only had one person say they would have come over but she is pregnant so decided against it. Other people treated me like we had the plague! I'm not sure I would have gone out of my way to infect them, but glad we have it over and done with.

ETA We did pinetasil(sp) baths and some one said to use Bepanthum which worked quite well, if messy.

I was pretty easy with my kids getting it, I figured it was just one of those things, but when lil miss got it she got really sick too - not as sick as Fay, but sick enough that she had to go to hospital for paracetamol suppositories as we couldn't get her temp down and antihistamines to stop the swelling.

She was only five months when she got it too, so little babies can get quite sick with it, altho they usually get a milder dose.

The older three were all fine when they had it, Maya had less than a week off preschool.
