Topic: Early BFP and gender link? Posted: 16 July 2009 at 5:25pm |
Hi after getting a very early BFP with both my pregnancies (9DPO) I read somewhere that it is linked to the gender baby you are carrying and more likely to be a girl. So my question is for all you mummies (or mummies to be that have found out their babies sex) that tested early and got a BFP what did you go on to have??? Just to see how right this theory is!
I'm guessing like most things -its probably a old wives tale!

First off good to see that you have got another BFP lillibit.
With DD I didn't get a BFP on a HPT till nearly 9 weeks. But this time round I got my BFP at about 8-9 DPO....not sure what the sex is this time round but should know hopefully next Thursday. I will be interested to see what others say

I got a BFP with DD at 28 days and the same with this one. I don't test before AF is due though so I'm probably not the best indicator.

with my first I got a BFP at 6 weeks,
with my second I got my bfp ridiculously early , at what I thought was 3 weeks , but was actually 2 weeks (my dates were wrong ) ...
First baby was a girl , second was a boy ....I think like most of these things , its an old wives tale

I got my BFP on my AF due date but according to some scans, I am a bit behind so I would have got a BFP only 7-8 DPO. This one is a boy.

I got my BFP at 13DPO (the day AF was due) and they're both girls. I tend not to test before AF is due though so maybe not the best indicator!

I tested early with one of mine & got a BFN, tested after AF & got a BFP, all 3 BFP have been tested after or on AF due date & all have been boys.
These old wives tales are funny as there is one for everything.

Yeah I have read some stuff about boys often having lower early levels of Hcg than girls too.... But with my girls I got positive tests at 14dpo and 5 weeks...

Interesting theory! I got my BFP at 10dpo (hadn't tested before that) so 5 days before AF was due, and my baby is a girl
Congrats on your pregnancy! Are you hoping for a girl?

lillitbit my MW told me all babies start out genetically as girls and later their anatomy changes to confirm whether they are boys or girls. Or something like that...
So I don't think the gender has any bearing on an early BFP.

first pregnancy ( MC at 14 weeks) was a boy and got late BFP.
#1 bubs is a boy and got early BFP.
3rd preg (MC at 6 weeks) got very early BFP at 8DPO and had a feeling bubs was a girl.
#2 bubs is a boy and got BFP at 9 DPO.
#3 bubs is a girl and didnt realise i was pregnant, i was just doing a test for the hell of it and got a SUPER strong BFP at 4.5 weeks pregnant (had scan).
i think its probably just an old wives tale.

Thanks ladies - I'm pretty sure it's safe to say thats it's a old wives tale almost seems more boys than girls from everyones responses!
No we aren't hoping for a girl specifically just a healthy baby at this stage.

This is interesting!
With DD got BFP at 4 weeks.
With DS got false negatives up till 6 weeks even though I 'knew' I was pg.
