Topic: 4D Scan Posted: 14 April 2009 at 5:25pm |
Someone at work was talking about a 4D scan and how amazing it was and recommended it.
Is anyone able to shed any light on what this is, does it cost extra and where to go in Auckland for it?

Yep it costs extra (on average about $165).
You can get them done at Insight and Ascot .. and I think the Auckland XRay Services on Dominion Road do them for about $65.00.
I have always had them done at Ascot .. (I got three with Issy alone!) .. and have always found them awesome.

We've had ours done at Insight Radiology in Takapuna. Was $95 for the 13 week scan and $95 for the 20 week scan.

I had one done at 24 weeks at Auckland Xray services on Dominion Road and it was $50 and thats with pics and a DVD. Would recommend going at about 28 weeks though to get really good pics, I only went early as DH was heading overseas for along time.

Do you have to get a referral from your midwife how does it work? Do you have to have a reason? I want another scan but my midwife said theres no problems.

No you dont require a referral .. however I think it is slightly cheaper if you do have one.

You can see quite a bit better than the normal scans, see:

Here is my baby at around 36 weeks, I found Insight in Takapuna great and friendly, even pass a tissue when I saw my baby and cried.

I went to Auckland xray too. They were great, bubs had his hands over his face so they let me come back the next day for no extra charge. I left it a bit late so pics werent as clear as others Id seen, they suggested 27-32 weeks. (I went at 35)

Yes, good point, you get clearer pictures the "earlier" you go ...
Here is Issy again at 36 weeks (you can see how much less of her fits into the shot)

They are great, had one not long ago and it was so nice to see bubs and mum and could not believe how much he/she looks like DS. Mine cost $50 in Christchurch with a referral from my mw.

I recommend you don't get them done too early - we got our first ones done at 18 weeks and Daniel looked hideous - I actually got really upset. At that stage, they have bugger all fat and are just skin and bones and he reminded me of my mum when she was dying.
But on a happy note, I had another one at 24 weeks and he looked much better

They are so amazing!!! What awesome pictures. But did you find that it ruins the 'surprise' of what your baby looks like when it's born? So cute too see them all squished up though - now I want to see my Bean!

I had mine done at Auck Xray services as well at app 26 weeks and got some great shots, I had a lovely eastern european lady and she got me to roll from one side to another and back again to dislodge bubs cos she was stuck in an awkward position, and she even checked 5 times!!! That baby was most def a girl hehe
It cost $50 and that included the whole scan recorded on DVD, and some pics printed out to show family/friends (same shiny paper kind that Horizon uses)
I dont think the pics could have been any clearer really!
and a legs crossed at ankles shot too lol

Its so tricky. I had a couple of free 4D scans as with twins I was going for scans every week towards the end. We only managed to get one good face shot of one baby the rest of the time their hands were in their faces so we couldn't get a clear shot. I would have been really peeved if I had paid especially as much as people are quoting on here. It is really cool to see but I personally wouldn't pay for it. I have never done anything with the one picture the real thing is so much cooler lol. In fact I did frame a normal scan pic because it came out looking way better and clearer than the 4D.
