Topic: Coping with m/s at work Posted: 20 May 2008 at 11:43am |
I feel ill . This is my first dose of m/s, I want to be sick and I'm trying really hard not to be.
I want to go home.
Any hints for surviving m/s at work?

I ate gingernuts all day long as well as popcorn for a while.
Didn't like water cause that made me feel even worse.

Keep busy!! I found I was somewhat ok at work cause it kept me busy, although I did run off to the loo numerous times and rested with my head down on the desk too
Gingernuts, lemon and ginger tea, crackers etc.
I am very sympathetic, as it is horrible!
Take care of yourself

I'm no help, I took a month off work coz I was just too sick to cope, and I work from home! Mind you, I did end up in hospital coz I was so sick...
I found lemonade iceblocks helped a lot, not sure how practical that is at work?

I second the lemonade iceblocks! They were all I felt like when I got home from work, something cool but without being a drink (which would make me vomit). Actually i drank lemonade a fair bit too in the early days.

Gingernuts, crackers and cheese, lemon and ginger tea. I also told work about 10 days after I found out cos there was no hiding that I felt like rubbish!

For me it was all about ginger, snacking and wearing seabands. Thankfully my m/s was never too bad and all those precautions seemed to help keep in under control.

To be honest there are times when I think you should just go home - I didn't but on looking back I should have. I also found that there were times when throwing up was the best thing I could have done - It relieved that awful feeling even if just for a little while.
Other than that, I found popcorn and cheese were okay, lemonade and stodgy foods like fish fingers, wedges, chicken nuggets...
Good luck, it's not fun but just keep telling yourself that for most people it does go

Ughhh there is nothing worse than working and feeling like crap! And I didn't want to tell work until I was 12 weeks but in the end told my boss, as I wasn't working as well as normal and not getting through my workload. One of the girls in the office guessed aswell when I was looking particularly green one day lol! I had a container of arrowroot biccies which I basically ate constantly all morning which seemed to help slightly.

With my 2nd pregnancy my midwife prescribed me Vit B6 and it worked wonders! Did nothing for my 3rd one though.
But while I was at doctors today, she said if I start to feel miserable to let her know and she'll prescribe me Vit B6.
So maybe worth a go?

Crackers and chippies, and carbonated water - seriously carbonated water helps! Won't stop it, but eases it some.

so far, i have found that every time i get a wave of nausea i eat a biscuit. it goes against your natural instinct but works. I never let myself get hungry.
I also find water makes it worse, but still am managing 1.5 litres of water a day. Exercise is making my nausea quite bad as well, unfortunately.
Good luck aprilfools!

I sucked on a sweet every time I felt nauseous just to tie me over until I got a break - it was better than vomiting everytime I tried to talk to a customer.
Try some Blackmore's morning sickness formula - its herbal and contains high concentration of ginger and a little bit of Vit B6. I did wonders for me this time round. I wish I had discovered it for my first pregnancy.

Oh - I should have mentioned. Some doctors say that m/s is caused by low blood glucose levels. That means that eating small snacks all day is good and having sweet things if you feel like it is okay while you have m/s to increase your blood sugar levels.

I know how you feel and it totally sucks
The things that I found helped me a little were gingernuts, ice ice cold water(just sipping when I felt that yuck feeling comeing on) lemonade iceblocks, cheese and cracker or peanut butter on crackers, protein helps to stop you from throwing up.
And never let yourself get too hungry as thats when ms becomes worse. I had all day sickness so I found if I nibbled all day I was usually O.K but still felt really sick.

I had all day nausea (and night too!) but no vomiting luckily so it made work a bit more tolerable. I told them when i was 8 weeks too so they were nice qbout it. I snacked all day - yoghurt, crackers, cheese, pretzels (the salty ones), cereals and drank hot water infused with fresh ginger (got one of those little tea thingees you sit in your mug) and litres of cold water. Was so relieved when it finally went away thoguh :)

I ended up telling my boss and workmates at 9 weeks as I just wasnt feeling the best and had to keep rushing off to vomit I'm glad I did tell them so early, they were very supportive!
