That's a shame.
For all my friends that have had babies I've always brought something either for them or the baby.
Haven't been to many baby showers though.
I always thought it was something the grannies to be organised.

I won't be having one. The main reason is that I've no close family / friends living near me to have one with.
Saying that, I don't think I'd be having one even if they were here.
That won't stop them from sending me presents though I'm sure

I'm a first time mum and I don't think I will have one. Both our families live 4 hours away and the friends I have here I am not close enough to for them to come to one. I'm not too fussed really. We have been given loads of stuff by family already so we can't moan about that.

I had one even though most of my friends and family live out of town. They all showed up though and it was great. My mum and I did it as a joint effort and had lots of fun organising it together.

i never had a baby shower - and a lot of people i know didnt, some did tho. i also thought it was just a way of getting stuff from people who may not have given you anything otherwise. i found i got gifts from friends after bubs was born and a lovely goodie basket from work too before i left, which was a real surprise.

Okay I must be weird as I organised my own baby shower.. Asked people to bring a plate etc. It was fun and I think everyone who came enjoyed themselves. I was 8 months pregnant when I had mine.
I don't think anyone will mind if you organise it yourself

Oh yeah, main reason no one organised mine is because I was the first of all my friends to have a baby - so no one knew about them, I guess.

I am a first time mum and I won't be having one. I am sure once the baby arrives then family and friends will send a gift for the baby.
If you want one I don't think there is any harm in organising one yourself.

I didn't have one and don't know anyone who has, thought it was just an American thing.

I had one for my second but not my first (12 year gap though). I organised it myself and had it when I was about 8 months pregnant. It was a fun afternoon and a good way to catch up with everyone before the baby was born as I'd had a lot of family committments in the months before the birth so hadn't seen much of my friends. I put on food (kept it simple) and we had some games. I got some nice presents although that wasn't the purpose of the baby shower.

I don't know many people that have had one, but apparently I am. If I had to organise it though, I wouldn't have one, as that's not my place. And most people do buy stuff for bubs once they've arrived if they haven't shelled out beforehand.

I never had one, in fact in my entire life I've only ever been to two, and I know a lot of people with babies!

My mum wanted to orgnanise one for me but I ended up having DD on the day it was supposed to happen. I actually preferred not having one as so many people gave us things when DD was born, it was much nicer that way.

I'm a first time mmmy-to-be, and I'm having a baby shower. Even though I'm only just over halfway, I will be doing it next month... before most of my friends leave after the uni exams. I'm doing the organising myself, sort of, we are just going to have a supper thing. But one of my friends offered to plan some baby shower games or something, so I guess it's still going to be sort of surprising what will happen!
Gifts will be a bonus of course especially since we are short of money, but the main reason for having the baby shower is to catch up with friends while I still can, and also hopefully make them feel involved in the pregnancy (which is important to me cos I want lots of support once the baby comes)! On the invites I will stress that gifts aren't expected, because for me, it's not about that, it's about spending time with friends celebrating a really cool life event
I think that if you want one, just go ahead and plan one. Doesn't have to be a big deal, just an afternoon tea with a few friends and family. No one will be expecting a huge planned party anyways... just a nice easy catch up.

Yup I never had one either with Ben, work put on a bit of a party and I got some cool pressies and after Ben was born people called round with gifts.
Maybe this time though I'll have a freezer party, when everyone brings round a frozen meal for after bubba is born...!!

What a good idea!!!
I had a baby shower that was organised by 2 friends of mine.It was on a Sat afternoon for a couple of hours and we had a few games, some simple afternoon tea food and yes there were presents - the friends had wanted me to make a list of things I needed/wanted so they could include it with invites but I didn't - I figured anyone who wanted to get me something shouldn't feel they had to!
The best part of having a baby shower was seeing all my friends/family together before I had Kaleb. I say if you want one or think you'd like something to mark the occasion then ask someone to help you plan one

I am having one with work as its a bit of a tradition but not having one with family/friends as don't really feel comfortable with it. Think sometimes it turns into a present opp rather than a catch up so have said no to my SIL who offered to organise it. I am having a meet and greet when bubs is about 6-8 weeks old instead.
