... do you stop alcohol and stop all the naughty foods?

I've stopped alcohol but have kept going with aioli etc. I know the embryo doesn't implant for up to 5 days and circulation takes a bit of time but am more paranoid this time.

What do you do (don't do), if anything?

I still eat what I like sushi, aioli ,runny poached eggs etc and with drinking alcohol I just have one (or two) only during the weekends if there is an occaision other than that I dont drink during the week.
As soon as I get my BFP I will stop everything naughty.

I heard you have 7 weeks untill the plancenta takes over...? so anything bad wont cause effects - correct me if I'm wrong. I dont beleive it tho.

As far as I understand, it's about 10 days to 2 weeks after conception that the embryo gets linked into your blood supply and what goes into you can go through into them. It may be longer than that but I'm pretty sure it's not 7 weeks.

ETA - looking on BabyCenter - placenta starts at end of week 4 and it's weeks 4-10 that see the main organ development.

Well I don't normally drink anyway so thats a non issue for me. I don't get what the big deal is with alcohol. Theres other yummy drinks you can have that aren't alcoholic.

I eat whatever I want that sticks to my "diet" but then I don't eat meat so I don't need to worry about anything to do with that.

I didnt change anything.. TTC can take such a long time and you have to give up so much during pg why do it now??? Most of us test just before or just after AF is due and thats plenty early enough to stop..

I didnt go out on massive blinder in the TWW.. didnt want to hinder implantation but if I felt like a drink or 2 then I would have it.

Its really a personal thing though..

I didnt stop eating or drinking anything I usually had(I even went on a couple of benders the month I got preg with Jae, we'd just been told it wasnt going to happen on our own... yeah right!) while TTC... As Mel said... most if us test before, or pretty close to when our periods are due, by which time the embryo has barely implanted and wont get anything from our blood supply just yet...so no harm done. Of course as soon as I got/get that magical second line I did/will stop any alcohol, but food-wise I'm pretty blase... I dont eat seafood so thats a non-issue, and I dont like mayo anyway

after TTC number 3 for a long time I have decided not to worry about what I eat or drink until I get a bfp... I think our bodies must be designed to protect our babies in these earlly stages as sooooo many people have uneffected babies after eatiing and drinking what ya shouldn't in those few weeks after conception...

However, my understanding of it is in the early few weeks, despite the fact the embryo is not connected via the placenta, the effect of alcohol or other teratogenic substances is often reported to have an all or nothing effect... so either no effect or spontaneous abortion of the embryo, often before there is any awareness of the pregnancy.... My feeling is that more often it has no effect but really who knows....

I'm not a drinker any ways, I stick to my regular diet - and indulge in sushi and V when AF arrives.

Yeah, if AF arrives, it'll be a nice glass of wine for me

I know I'm being OTT but my son has congenital heart defects and before I knew I was PG. I had a few drinks and it's led to months of blaming myself that I'd caused his heart problems, even though I know that wasn't the cause - I just don't want to go through that blame cycle again. Easier just to avoid the booze!

I did exactly the same as you Flissty. But TTC only lasted 2 cycles for me, so maybe I would have become less cautious as time went on. I doubt it though. I know in many cases there is no effect of drinking, but for me it just wasn't worth the risk that I'd be one of the people that it did affect - and for what? A glass of wine? It's a no-brainer for me.

totally understandable flissty... I think if I had anything close to a normal cycle and could actually identify ov I'd be more cautious during the TWW... but some of my what I thought was my tww have ended up over two month waits LOL

I was avoiding things like drinking when ttc, but I am so over it now I am not anymore. I don't drink heaps & only now & again. If I thought I pg I would not drink tho.

No, I will only make changes to my diet when I become pregnant. I have a glass of wine each night with dinner and eat sushi every day for lunch.

I gave up drinking altogether when TTC, because it can make a difference to your chances of conception (and I needed all the help I could get ). So I didn't have that issue. I know I got more careful with sushi etc later on in our time trying - that was more of a 'well, if this was the month and anything I did hurt the baby it would be a tragedy' kind of feeling.

I know I'm doing a cross-stitch afghan for Bubs with the letters of the alphabet. I was going to try to do a letter a week, and got a shock today when I realised that I don't have 26 weeks left!!! So exciting!

nope, I don;t cut anything out in 2ww, but may start if no success further down the line.

I keep hearing that 'relax and it will happen' so I figure this applies to food/lifestyle as well, I'm focusing far too much on if something might be fertilising dividing and implanting as it is, and that the blood supply isn't really mingling till week 4.

Saying that I cut down booze quite a lot, rarely drink anything these days, but more as a post mc/emotional drunk thing! I'm more concerned about if going for a run or working out affects things in the 2ww

I ride both of my horses a lot more - really focus on it - cause if I am UTD I will likely stop riding like I usually do!

I just had a VERY mild shandie... but I really craved one... and felt I deserved it... hoping like heck that it doesn't do the laxative effect on me again like it did last Saturday, being wheat and all...
