Nursery or your own Room?

DS was in his own room right across the hall but I slept in his room for the first 3 months because DH was working fulltime and studying so really needed a good nights sleep. I guess it depends on whether you want to get up each time baby needs feeding or if you want to feed in bed (if you're planning to bf) Personally I was never comfortable feeding in bed and didn't want DS getting used to being in our bed. The other thing is that he's such a noisy sleeper that he keeps me awake if we're in the same room, and I never have had a problem hearing him from our room - we just keep both doors slightly ajar. HTH

We had Stu in our room for about the first three weeks. As soon as we got our angelcare monitor we moved him into his own room. I sleep much better with him in his own room and with the monitor on. So does he actually - I was getting up to his little grizzles too quickly when he was in our room - sometimes he just goes back to sleep after a little grizzle and doesn't need to be picked up.

So yeah - I would put him straight in his room if I were you

It looks as though everyone feels differently - personally, I liked to have Clara sleeping close to me when she was a newborn; after having her in my tummy for so long it would have felt weird if she'd gone straight into another room - but that's just me. Also, she was also born in July and I wouldn't have wanted to go too far from my bed to feed her - I fed her in my bed during night feeds.

We had her in a hammock in our room, then she moved into her cot in her room when she was about 3 or 4 months I think. The hammock was brilliant - it was close enough that I could lie in bed and rock it, sometimes I think I rocked her in my sleep (she was a very unsettled baby due to reflux).

we'll be keeping mack in our room with us. im studying right through my pregnancy and afterwards so id rather not have to get up, get cold, go to another room to feed and then settle myself back into bed. we have a hammock which hangs from the roof so space isnt an issue for us. DH has a pager so i used to being woken in the night and settle quite easily but it depends if your inclined to jump up everytime you hear a sniffle or not. im not sure how ill be once he is born. if i race to him everytime he moves we'll put him i his own room but its a really cold time of the year so id rather just have one room heated that we can monitor easier too

I had Rhys in our room for the first 6 weeks in a bassinet and then moved him & his bassinet into his own room, across the hall from our room with both doors wide open. I don't have an angelcare monitor as I can hear all the noises he makes anyway, or though I did seriously think about getting one, but didn't have the $$. I also didn't know how much noise a baby makes when they're asleep.
If the cost is putting you off buying a bassinet, I bought a 2nd hand one and bought a brand new mattress. It didn't end up being so expensive

We have had both our babies in our room. Isobelle is still in with us and is almost 5mths now.
I don't really think it is a decision you can make before the baby comes as you don't know how you are going to feel about it until it comes time to actually do it. You might be a mum that can't bear to be that far apart from your baby or you might be a mum that can't sleep when they are in the same room. If I was you I would prepare for both, if you don't end up using a bassinette then you can always sell it on TM. bassinette mattresses are only about $20-$30.

Jack was in our room for the first 5mths. It was easier only heating one room. Once I got more intelligent about it (baby brain! ) I would wheel the change table in at night and everything got done in our room. I only had to take 1 step out of bed to get him, would sit in bed and feed, I found that I didn't wake as fully and didn't feel as tired during the day.

DH would sleep through it all, sometimes making a comment when the bedside light went on but it never worried him. I also like the company even though he was asleep. For a while I would take Jack into his room to feed but it was colder and lonely.

We will do the same with this baby

Both my kids slept in with us, we don't really have an option as we were renovating Alia's room when she was born & now we are renovation a new room for her & Cooper will go into her old room. But in saying that it's much easier to feed in bed at night.

Each baby is completely different, some are noisy & some are quiet so that will play a big part on where you have them.

I'm debating if I want to leave Cooper in a cot in our room now that he's out growing his bassinette

heres a thought.....why not hire a basinette or a moses basket so you can have him/her in your room for minimal expense.

We had Caden in our room until he was 6 months old, I felt so much better knowing he was right there and I could hear him breathing and moving and stuff. he was a noisy sleeper but that was comforting for us.

Lilyan will be in our room until she is about the same age.

Also, like what lilfatty said, much easier for night feeds I used to just scoop caden up and into my bed to breastfeed!
