I was just wondering if teething rusks are considered solids?? I dont want to start my baby until 6months and hes not really showing signs of being hungry anyway (4months today) but we put him in his high chair at dinner time with a spoon so he feels included. But i was thinking that feels just as mean and wondered if he would be ok with teething rusks instead of the spoon??

I have no idea what the answer is though, but I have a plunket lady coming next week to chat about solids, so I'll ask her then, cause I'd like to do the same with Blake.

I don't know the official answer either, but with DD she couldn't get bits off the rusks anyway as they were so hard, so if they are not eating them I wouldn't think it would count as solids... Worth a try

How about getting one of those muslin bag things and put some frozen breast milk in it (or formula if that's what you are using). That way he will have something to chew on but not get solids. If you don't want to use the bags just a square of muslin tied up would work too.

I brought some teething rusks but discovered they have milk solids in them so we can't use them.

I bought some simply organic ones today and gave him one and he had been chewing on it for ages before a couple of tiny little soggy crumbs came off. I wont give him them every day cos i am wanting to do exclusive BF til 6months but really dont think these are gonna hurt him and affect the exclusive thing

Thanks Esmesmum........have you tried the muslin bag with frozen breastmilk or formula yourself?does it defrost quickly? Would be quite cool to try but i could imagine a big mess of breastmilk defrosting all over him.........lol.......but he has a bath after our dinner so shouldnt matter.
