Argh, I hope someone can help out or tell me I am just stressing over nothing!

So H is nearly 12 months, and while he started really well with solids he has slowed right down. He is crawling and trying to walk so is burning energy but I just can't seem to get him to eat! He has solids before milk, I've dropped his bottle first thing in the morning, but he rarely eats breakfast... lunch and dinner are ok, snacks he isn't too interested in. He has had most things, and I give him lots of finger food but he often plays with it and throws it off his high chair... if I break it into bits he'll happily eat it but won't do it himself. He also spends a lot of time chewing the side of his high chair, so I am wondering if he is teething but this has been going on for a wee while.

He is still having 4 x 200mL bottles, including one at 10pm. We've tried dropping that, and reducing the amount of milk but he just cries and wakes in the middle of the night and refuses more solids. So how do I get him to eat more? Or do I just ride it out?

He has also been a good sleeper, self settled for most day sleeps and sleeping from 7pm to 6.30-7am most nights... but since easter it's all gone haywire. Won't settle well for day sleeps, wakes at 5-5.30am and won't go back to sleep BUT then is tired, refuses breakfast, cries and grizzles and ends up back in bed by 7.30am. Same thing for afternoon nap - tired, yawns, rubs his eyes but cries and is almost impossible to settle.

I am really not sure how to get his eating and sleeping back on track... so any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated!

Could have those aweful molars coming through, they do take a while.

Will he be spoon fed?

Has DLS upset him?

My son was a terrible eater until about 14 months. I just rode it out. He is still on 3 x 200ml bottles at 15months though. I did offer small amounts of food all throughout the day, and he seemed to eat more that way.

My friend's wee girl was a really picky eater till she was almost 12mo. She had started off really keen on solids but then got really crook with a cold/flu at about 8mo and went right off everything and would only eat non-lumpy pureed food for months (and BF 3-4 times a day). Then one day we giving our two kids tea together (we do that a lot) and M wanted some of C's quiche. She ate heaps! Then a couple of days later she really wanted another friend's pasta at lunch time. It was all go from there, she is an eating MACHINE now and will try anything.

Basically, my friend went along with what she would eat (purees and sometimes only if she added fruit) but kept offering the other stuff as well.

If he IS teething and that's putting him off his food I'd be inclined to keep up the milk for now, rather than trying to cut it back. Specially if you think he's waking up hungry in the night.

there must be something it the water or air(hehe) we are EXACTLY the same here..since easter all sleeps have gone 'tits up' for want of a better expression! no longer self settling at night or in the day, very short sleeps, and grizzling/crying several tinmes during the night (most of the time not really waking up, but still needing me to go in and settle quickly)
eating still ok, but I have an eating machine! I am thinking teething, maybe molars as fingers are in the mouth more and gums very hard, so its off to buy bonjela and weleda tetting powder tomorrow!
I have no great advice but can sympathise, its hard work!!

I was just going to add that if you stress about it then bubs will pick up on this and eating will be worse.

I have to admit that I do get antsy if Amelia doesn't eat well but I do try to remind myself that she won't starve.

Try substituting water for milk during the day. They simply don't need milk at that age and get most of their nutrition from their solids. It's a hard transition to make, especially if he IS teething.

When I nannied a baby this age, I would give him water after his solids in a sippy cup and let him have it as much as he wanted throughout the day. He really enjoyed playing with it and got water everywhere
