With legal aid - you will find most top lawfirms have a family lawyer that will do some legal aid work.

With the family order - you can always apply for an interim order rather than a permanent order - this would give you both an opportunity to address issues, and when it was reviewed you can choose to make it permanent (if things are still bad) or alter it, or drop it all together.

BIG hugs, what a hard time for you - remember, you have to do what is best for your child in these situations. Love him or not, ask yourself if this is the right environment to bring a child up in.

I didn't want to read and run either. So sorry to hear you are going through this. I hope you find the solution that works best for you and your son.

Thats a hard situation hun and I fully feel for you! I've been in a somewhat similar situation and I think practicing some tough love and removing you and your son from the relationship (using legal means if necessary) until he gets treated is the best all round decision since his drinking and bad behaviour affects you all negatively. Sometimes we have to make the most painful decisions to make things right don't we?! \
ETA I personally wouldn't give him unsupervised access while he is a 'practising' alcoholic. While you may feel guilty about withholding parent privileges from him just remember that he created this situation and he's responsible for consequences, not you.
I used legal aid btw and I had an awesome lawyer from a topnotch firm. You can ring round and find out who does legal aid and who is available and go with who you feel most comfortable with.
Hope it all works out
